I use ear-monitoring, too. It's great and simpler than wedges.

Since it isn´t that expensive any more, in-ear can and should be used by any musician on stage, for keeping your ears fresh, especially when you play more gigs in a row. The monitor-box solution is way too loud when you get older:-)

The monitor-box solution is way too loud when you get older:-) Being a drummer by trade, I was always interested in "in ear" monitoring, but was always put off by the cost. I mean, my AKG C444 headset mic set me back the thick end of £300 !! (same one as used by Madonna and Kylie, apparantly ) But yes, custom moulded in ear is the best way to go.
