Found some adhesive felt pads at Home Depot (Surface Guard Light Duty Felt Pads SKU: 3900309425, $1.19) Very dark brown (almost black), but still too thick, so I sliced their thickness in half with a razor blade, then into very small squares (3-5mm), and stuck them to the back of the black keys (using pointy tweezers) where they were clanking against the top face of the Fusion. They are not visible from the keybed, they do not inhibite the keys' returning to their full height as far as I can tell, and they have eliminated the clacking. I imagine over time either the felt will compress down, become hard, or the pad will shift or fall off, requiring replacement, but it was worth the tedious effort. Hope this helps those with this problem. For my UK mates, these are marketed under Select Hardware Ltd, Birmingham UK B65 OLJ

12 years later-somebody at the AlesisMusic group finally figured out what was wrong that caused this clacky black key problem, and also why different 8HDs had the velocity discrepancy, and others didn't. It was me. It took hours, and being stuck inside with the pandemic in 2020-which maybe someday some of you will be able to forget-maybe in another 12 years. Not yet. I posted pictures there and details, I had to completely dissect 2 8HD's to find out what was wrong and fix it. It also took heavy metal drills and giving up my last 2 braincells. Was it worth it-well I now have 2 working 8HDs, but without completely modifying the 1 Fatar keybed-someone else here suggested modifying the springs for the black keys which would probably work, but I don't have it in me after doing all this. it ended up being 2 different hammers-1 for the white, different ones for the black.
They won't let me out of the "Home for Once Partially/Mentally Intact Musician-Now Totally Wackadoodles" AKA "Opmim NTW" for those of you with limited attention spans-long enough to do this. By the way, i guess we can't really call this a "quick reply, since it took me 12 years to post it?

Quick doesn't really matter as far as we are concerned Joe . . .
The fact is that you persevered - and found out about it - so the rest of us didn't have to
So we are all grateful for that . . . .
Putting the lid back on has always been a bit hit and miss to get it "right" IME . . . .
Sometimes takes a number of "Goes" . . . . .
