The Fusion has a depth that the softsynth definitely doesn't have, to my ears, at least.

The Fusion has a depth that the softsynth definitely doesn't have, to my ears, at least. I think this has more to do with YouTube's crappy compression than the CS-80V not being as beefy as the Fusion. Here in the studio, to my ears anyway, the CS-80V is, IMHO, the better and closer of the two to Vangelis' version. That's not taking anything away from Electrique's patch. Also, the Fusion is being recorded from the ADAT port, directly into my mixer, then fed out over S/PDIF into the PC. The video takes it's audio directly from the S/PDIF input. The CS-80V, on the other hand, is a simply running off my soundcard, albeit at 48KHz. The audio is also taken directly from that card, but I'd wager the ADAT / S/PDIF route would be cleaner and more accurate.

I agree. The sound of the Fusion in the clip isn´t that what it is in the real world either. youtube clip sounds are pretty cheesy sometimes and in this case they are, unfortunately. I´ve played electric´s VAs and they sound great, as well as the CS80V does (I have all the Arturias). I guess it´s not a clip to compare sounds of both devices too much, it´s just nice to see your gifted hands stroke the keys playing a vangelian leadline ;D

I'm a terribly poor player. Sequencers were made for people like me. It's something I one day hope to address. Your kind words are much appreciated, however

Ok I finally got around to play with these. They're all excelent, especially the Blade Runner lead! I added about 1.9ms of portamento to it (because I don't care if it sounds like the original) and as a result, I got in late at work today! Couldn't stop playing it...

I also like the bladerunner sound very much. It's a VERY useful Sound that can give that "extra" character to a song.
The other two are also very nice but the bladerunner one is already a favorite cause I just love that kind of sounds.
Nice work! Joeri

FWIW - I think Eletrique's is closer to the original too

I must pay Eletronique a compliment...that music from the opening scene of blade runner left a very deep impression on me when I saw it in the theaters as a 10 year old...and many times since on DVD and youtube... and your rendition of that sound (PLayed on a CS-80 by Venagelis) is absolutely SPOT ON! You nailed it. And I ouwl like to add that I have extremely dicserning ears. Very good job, my friend. I will be downloading that sound and jamming tonite!

At first of all, I'll thank you all for your great comments. I'm just happy my patch is inspiring so much people to create OWN music, not only cover old (but of course also great!) songs... I recreated the patch from just another soft synth, but I don't wanted only to recreate, I also wanted to bring some own inspire into it. Anybody who edit this patch should also share it for show Fusions flexiblitiy and good sound. I don't care really about how close it is to Vangelis' Blade Runner Sound, it was only close enough to give it that name. I'm sorry people go to work to late because of me ;-) but I hope you just had some great fun. Go on to enjoy - your self created version of it. Fusion has great capabilities for so much more great stuff!

BTW: Today I listened to "Shine On You Crazy Diamonds Part I - V" (again ) and noticed the lead sound at 6:30 is quite similar to the vangelis sound. Only a few modifications (e.g. attack) and you'll get it I'll post this also on fusionzone

In this case I recommend to add a little dirt to the sound, to make it more authentic. The original is a Moog and actually really difficult to simulate with the Fusion's VA. The CS80 is way cleaner compared to the Moog. I must admit that I gave up trying to simulate Moog with any VA. Surely some are pretty close, but if you have the chance for a direct comparison you can notice this right away. That's why I did the MyMoog for the Fusion. And there is a Trombone sample that doesn't sound like a Trombone (of course not), but it's exactly this what you need to make a very good Shine on ... sound.
A while ago I did a huge Vintage String Ensembles library, currently available in ws-engine format, anyone interested to get this for the Fusion? I just had this idea because of the nice string ensemble sounds of Wish you ....
Cheers
Klaus
