Welcome to the Fusion Club!
Just to set the record straight as to the involvement of Hollow Sun here.....
I have been developing professional sound library for 20 years or more for the 'old' Akai and contributed greatly to their official sample libraries for the S900, S1/2/3000/XL, MPC60 and also S5/6000.
When the 'old' Akai had troubles, I branched out and developed sound library for Roland and Korg and several prominent 3rd-party sound developers and many of my sounds and samples can be found in their current products.
However, in December of 2005, I was approached by Alesis to develop library for their new Fusion. I was sent a 6HD for evaluation and within a very short time, I was VERY impressed with the instrument's powerful capabilities and was keen to get involved. I can honestly say (hand on heart) that had I not been impressed, I may not have signed up - I had plenty of other work to turn to. But impressed I was ... amazed even! I found it straightforward - easy even - to use and was thrilled by the sounds it was capable of making in its various synth engines and the sampler reminded me very much of the trusty Akai sampler I had worked with so extensively. Even today, almost a year on, Fusion continues to delight and surprise me.
Then came the free Fusion Convertor and the world really opened up for me as I was able to port my extensive S5/6000 library to Fusion (especially my award winning collection of 'vintage' keys, synths and beatboxes). Not only that but with Fusion's stellar synthesis capabilities and effects, etc., I was able to take these to a new level.
Anyway, the relationship between Alesis and Hollow Sun was cemented and saw the release of various sound library updates over the following months and ten releases have so far been issued.
However, such was the level of work, I took on two other S5/6000 friends of mine, Roberto Puricelli and Dan McCullough, to assist with sound library development, testing, etc.. We operate autonomously from Alesis and together we produce not only 'official' sound library for Alesis but have also released our own 'Freepacks' to further augment Fusion's growing sound library. I now have an 8HD with its gorgeously playable weighted keyboard and my underlings Rob and Dan develop on 6HDs.
Yes - it is true that Alesis pays us a few $$$ for any 'official' work we do but that does not influence any bias - Hollow Sun supports Fusion because we think it is truly great and one of the most interesting and exciting products on the market right now, especially for the price.
Of course, we are also the first to admit that Fusion ain't perfect - some of the factory ROM sounds fail to impress (although some are truly inspirational), some aspects of its operation can be quirky and yes, in the early days, there were some operational bugs... but that can be said of many products! However, since then, most of Fusion's operational bugs have been fixed, the operational quirkiness is less of an issue now that we have worked with the thing and become used to them and many of the deficiencies in the ROM factory sounds have been overcome (or compensated for) by the wealth of new free sound library that has been released. There is still a little way to go but the fact is that Fusion is now, by and large, a stable and powerful and versatile instrument capable of so much .... and that is what we are keen to promote - whilst others focus on Fusion's few remaining weaknesses, we prefer to look at its strengths. In a world awash with several 'me too' products, Fusion dares to be different!
And that is the attitude that is hoped to be engendered here at the Fusion Club... instead of moaning about what Fusion doesn't do, I'd prefer to focus on what it does do so well and help each other to get the best from it and enhance its reputation in the market place.
To me, Fusion is a bit like a friend of mine - there are some aspects of his personality that I don't like too much and yes, he can drive me nuts sometimes and yes, sometimes he lets me down .... but when we get together, we have a blast!
