Hi, just acquired the HD8 after using an Alesis QS8 for a number of years. The OS is Ver 1.22 and I'd like to upgrade to Ver 1.24 but there are so many conflicting ways to do this that I don't know what to do for the best. i.e. USB or CF?, Where is this B7 at power on even mentioned in any manual? Does it upgrade just the Hard disk, or does it upgrade internal ROM? Is there a difference between the zip files for CF and USB?
Other than that, I am well pleased with the sounds and the functions, and it goes well together with my other hardware. Technics KN6000, TC Helicon VoiceLive2, JamVox

Welcome! Personally, I've used the CF card (maximum size of 2Gb in the Fusion, it won't recognise larger cards) and never had a problem. As far as I'm aware there is only one file to download from Alesis. When updating, the hard drive will be untouched (though it is wise to back it up first), the Fusions ROM is in flash memory so that is what is updated. To update via CF card, first (just for safetys sake) format the card in the Fusion. Unzip the file from Alesis and copy the file(s) (there may be more than one, I can't remember) to the root of the CF card. Insert the card into the Fusion then turn it on while holding down the "B" and "7" buttons in the bank select area of the synth (the load of buttons to the right of the screen). From there, follow the Fusions on screen prompts. The process takes about 5-10 minutes. DO NOT turn off the Fusion until the update is completed. Once the update is done, you may need to turn the Fusion off then back on (give it ten seconds or so before turning back on) before you can use it... But it's been a while since I did it so I can't remember, it may just boot up straight away after the update!
