I sold a lot of gear this summer (but not thre Fusion) and bought a Kurzweil PC3 with the cash I collected (very good price in Germany). After a few days fiddling with the Kurz, my conclusion is : - VAST synthesis as they call it is incredibly powerful but the learning curve is not an easy path. - The famous Kurzweil sound is a bit overestimated. The orchestral sound are great, the organs quite good but the pianos and epianos are less convincing compared to Nord/Yamaha or even GEM (RP-X, Promega) - THE FUSION IS THE MOST UNDERRATED AND CHEAPEST WORKSTATION OF THE WORLD !

I'd agree that it was the most underrated SYNTH. As a workstation however, it comes a distant last compared to the competition. I love the sound capability of the Fusion. And with Steve and Klaus' sound design contribution it has flat out the best set of classic sounds (Trons, Synths, etc) My Roland Fantom, which is my latest toy can not hold a candle to the Fusion in that area, but for sequencing, arps, tempo sync'd LFOs and filters, and some of the most cutting edge sounds, it's awesome.
As I said somewhere else, they complement each other very well

I didn't say it was the best workstation but so many keyboard players either don't know the Fusion or consider it as a cheapo toy ! I'm not an Alesis addict but when I compare my 700 £ Fusion or my 260 £ Miniak (with my ears !), I really wonder how someone could get more for less !

Well ... it's a pity this board remained a 'rough diamond' and was never allowed to be developed out into it's full potential with the illusive V2.00 OS. On the other hand of course, they became cheap up to a point where even I could buy one. Now it's my centerpiece, and my most valued possesion. In the mean time they're hard to find around here, so I treat it with great care. If there is one thing I really miss is there is no midi sysex implementation ... that would allow me to add my box of knobs (Behringer BCR) and tweak many parameters at once instead of the tedious inc/dec prev/next and rotor. So ... underrated by the world YES, but not by ME nmp

The more you edit sounds etc. the more you are familiar with the parameter locations and behaviour. And there are also a lot of shortcuts. After a while you can be really very quick jumping from one parameter/page to the next. Performance: It is possible to assign several modulation sources to a single destination, even working with ones in opposite direction and each of them with any value.

Well ... KPR's response has triggered me to give the editing of sounds on the Fusion itself another try.
All in all after a few yours you get by well trough the menus, navigating from one place to the other is indeed not that hard once you've figured it out.
And another thing that I find very practical is the 'time' parameters are in seconds, not 0-99, or percentages. The freely programmable MOD section alsways confused me as it's 'detached' from the actual SYNTH section. But I now see that this makes it the most flexible setup ever.
I might post up some of the new patches I made one of these days... I'm a bit affraid to as I'm not a PRO on this.
