Hi, I'm doing a university project on physical modelling synthesis, and am trying to find out what sort of quality the Fusion's PM patches are. If you've got any demos of some standard PM sounds, like flute, sax, trombone, cello... please could you post an MP3 link here? I haven't been able to find any demos of the PM sounds on their own. Thanks!

The reason is that those who tried to produce something musical with the physical modeling were unable to create some good sounds. Physical modeling is the less productive synthesis on the Fusion. But maybe we did not try enough !

Hi, I'm doing a university project on physical modelling synthesis, and am trying to find out what sort of quality the Fusion's PM patches are. It depends on how you look at it. There's no cello or trombone PM sounds on the Fusion as far as I know... The Fusion only has Reed (think sax, oboe etc) and Wind (flute, picollo etc) PM models... The Wind model is the best of the two in my opinion. While they aren't great for their intended purposes, there are some interesting presets which put them to good use for things like drum sounds... And they can be used for all sorts of other wierdness too.

Exactly, there are just Wind and Reed models. They are not bad at all, perhaps a bit limited when it comes to accurate 1:1 simulation of some instruments. Panflute, Recorder, Oboe etc. are quite fine as well as supernatural fantasy instruments. Audio examples can be found somewhere in the existing audio tracks, but of course not one by one in a row and perfect for university studies purposes. If there is a decent budget for audio production surely someone might do that.

Thanks very much for the info, just general impressions on the accuracy and usability was what I was after. Quite helpful :-)

the models on the fusion are, unfortunately, terrible. I've got a korg Z1 and have owned a Yamaha EX5R (vl synthesis) and they both blow the fusions modelling away as far as both sound and programmability is concerned. I love the va, fm and rompler stuff but the models are just awful and I think were left unfinished - I believe I read that alesis' intention was to release new models and features with OS updates (which of course never came).
