How can I, in the easiest way, convert the .afn files to .wav files? I have Windows XP Home, Sonar 3 PE, Alesis Fusion 6HD, M-Audio MidiSport Uno 1x1 USB. I create drum loops, patterns for my Roland SPD-S Sample Pad and songs for sequence tracks. I want to put the sequence tracks on my iPod for live performance (I am a drummer by the way) and just want to know the easiest way to do this. I have been having trouble setting up the Fusion to work as a controller with Sonar using the MidiSport Uno 1x1. I really do not have a lot of experience hooking this stuff up, so that could be the problem. But, do I need Sonar to convert the .afn file? Or is there something really easy that I am just not getting? Also, when using Sonar, is it possible to get the Fusion sounds? Or do you only get the sounds in Sonar? I am really new at this......... Any insight would be greatly appreciated!!! ;D Thanks for yor time!!! Chops36

Do you have an audio interface?
If so, the easiest way to do it would just be to plug your Fusion into that then record it in Sonar.
I'm not aware of any way of converting .afn files btw.

Creating a proprietary format was kind of the point, though wasn't it?
It's all about protecting their investment.

First of all you know a fusion *.afn file is a midi file, you can copy any *.afn file to your computer, change the file extension from afn to mid and it will play in any player capable of playing midi files or import it into a software capable of importing and editing midi files. Converting a midi file to a wav file may not give you the end result you are looking for. FYI Change Fusion *.afn extension to *.mp3, *.wav & *.mid Fusion Jazz Pianno Demo Quicktime Player Real player Nero Showtime Windows Media Player Jazz Pianno Demo.mp3 would not play would not play played, but no sound would not play Jazz Piano Demo.wav would not play would not play played, but no sound Played song Jazz Piano Demo.mid Played song Played song Played song Played song Midi to wave converter, I am sure there are others, but here is one of the midi to wave convertor programs. www.midconverter.com/midi-converter.shtml

Awesome discovery, Jeese!
Do you know how to play the analog tracks of a song? This trick plays only the MIDI tracks.

Hang on... I've just remembered... Isn't there an option in the song utilities menu that allows you to export audio tracks to WAV?
If it does that you should just be able to hook the Fusion up to your computer via USB and pull the WAV(s) off the drive. Once you've done that you should be able to drop them into your DAW.

Hold on a sec, here, folks. The Jazz Piano demo is nothing but a midi file (no audio), so changing that to a *.mid may have worked, but does changing a demo song *with* audio so that its extension is .wav or .mid result in a playable file? I know that ARP files (*.afa) are nothing but MIDI files, but I believe .afn files are SONG data files, which include both MIDI and audio files. I don't quite understand Jesse's layout, hopefully it's something that shows how simply changing an extension on a pure MIDI Fusion SONG (no audio) will result in a playable MIDI file. But the bottomline is, if you create a Fusion SONG (with audio, *.afn) and want to convert it into a stand-alone .wav file, your best bet is to simply play it on the Fusion while you record its Main OUTs onto the computer... The Song Utilities exports single audio tracks as 24-bit .wav files; it doesn't export MIDI files or any other song info, such as repeats, fades, track enables, etc.... ==> When in doubt, press PLAY (on the Fusion) and RECORD (on the computer/sequencer).

Sort of steering slightly away here, but is it possible to convert the samples and multi samples, programs etc into .wav or .aiff formats?
Thanks.

www.midconverter.com/midi-converter.shtmlHere’s what you get when you buy MID Converter: MIDI to Audio (WAV, MP3, OGG) recording feature lets you easely record MIDI files to the most popular audio formats. MIDI Format Conversion tool lets you to convert various .mid formats from one to another. The program also features the built-in sequencer engine. That allows to playback MIDI directly in the program and record to Audio with the highest quality. At least, batch conversion mode saves you the time and hassle of individually converting the files to the desired file type. Along with the ability to batch convert you can, of course, carry out single conversions. Partial Conversion Mode: Converting of file fragments with user-defined start and end positions is another amazing feature of this unique software. Supported Audio formats which you can convert MIDI to: mp3, wave (wav), ogg. Supported MIDI formats which you can convert from one to another: mid 0, mid 1, riff mid 0, riff mid 1. Attachments:

I think I am correct in saying that audio CANNOT be extracted from the Fusion Sample or Multisample files.
FusionConvertor S/W warns to backup your .wav files BEFORE converting to Fusion - AS THERE IS NO WAY BACK.
The Fusion's .afn files will of course play (when suitably altered to .mid) in whatever player THROUGH WHATEVER SYNTHCHIP/SOUNDCARD/SYNTHESISER that is connected.
It will of course NOT sound like the Fusion unless it is midied (correctly) to the Fusion.
So the best solution to enjoy the Fusion experience AWAY from the Fusion - is to record EACH TRACK (soloed) - with its associated PROGRAM, via the audio outs - and drop the resulting files into your DAW of choice.
You can record more than 1 track to audio if you wish - but they will of course not be separable afterwards.
