Today I completed this project which has been on my mind for quite some time. The SSD I used came from China (Where else?) The supplier ( acesupplier11) was excellent - and very communicative. I sent him pics of the Fusion and its existing HD and explained what I was trying to do. He mailed me back to say that if the drives (In the end I bought two) didn't work with the Fusion, then I could return them for a refund. Can't say fairer than that! I promised I would tell him how it turned out - and I will do so first thing Monday. In the meantime, THIS is the drive I bought and this is the supplier: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/181331185517?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649[It might be a plan to mention my name (Chris) and the Fusion when ordering - so he can see where this is all coming from - might get you quicker delivery - mine arrived very quickly (China - UK)]In due course, I'll produce a document detailing how I proceeded, with description and pics. The drive was a 128Gb, which formatted in the Fusion, in a flash. to 120Gb (as we know). There does appear to be a slight improvement in speed when loading, but some tests would be good against against an HDD-equipped Fusion to prove the point . . . With this mod. your Fusion will weigh a little less - not that you'll notice. The SSD only weighs 75g. It is very quiet though, which will please users with Studio-bound Fusions. Remaining noise is from the small fan near the PSU. Folk who wish to Gig their Fusions will also be happy - No more fear of damaging the HD in transit . . . I would have included a picture of the drive installed in the Fusion, but at 3.4Mb its apparently to big to post. . . . Best Regards parametric

I'm talking about extra suppports / cables / etc ! You're welcome neomad! I am going to produce a document shortly detailing how I did this. The adaptor you require is commonly available and sorts out the data cable AND the power - and makes the whole issue just "plug and play". The only real WORK involved concerned the Fusion's ribbon plug. It has ONE hole blanked off (i.e. NO hole). The adaptor has ALL pins present. So you have the choice to either (a) Drill out the blanked off "hole", OR (b) Cut off the offending "Pin" from the adaptor. I chose to drill out the blanked-off hole. Apart from this, it all went rather smoothly. Document will follow shortly parametric

Jesse How do do this is a bit of a puzzler . . . . I think we BOTH have 384Mb installed? The problem is knowing WHAT is already in RAM. The Fusion reloads whatever you were at when you shut down. I would think it might work to access in succession, a series of programs (AVOIDING the Holy Grail GP) until it is CLEAR that the Fusion is loading each one (which would indicate the RAM is full) Then, start the stopwatch when you select "Holy Grail GP" and stop when the display is "clear" I just tried Vstream_01 H8 (063) Hello Mr Howell - loaded in 4.56 secs Each time I tried Holy Grail it loaded in 0 seconds? parametric

Vstream 01 H8 I have - Thank You Mr Howell Samples ??.? MB Time to load 8.2 seconds
Ultimate Piano Collection - FAZ.DYN.32-11 Samples 37.2 MB Time to load 18.4 seconds
Ultimate Piano Collection - STWD.DYN 32-11 Samples 35.3 MB Time to load 18.0 seconds
Ultimate Piano Collection - BOES.LD HI1 Samples 37.0 MB Time to load 18.2 seconds

I don't have The Ultimate Piano Collection, Jesse . . .
What I have noticed though is that my Fusion has been ON for around 2 hours and the Right hand side top is absolutely COLD.
Could be that much of the Fusion's "bad press" about hot running was due to the damn WD HDDs
This could be interesting news for 6HD owners.
I would guess the SSD is cheaper to run too - as well as kinder to the PSU
Also, TWO of the original demos (I still have them all on the Fusion) have 8 tracks of audio - and they play perfectly

The Ultimate Piano Volume is available in "Free Sounds Jesse" folder in the Alesis Fusion Dropbox, I think you already have access, but if not I will send you a link. I figured it would run cooler and your right it should use less power and ease the load on the PSU helping it to run cooler also, sounds like a win/win upgrade Definitely good news for 6HD owners.

I guess what we're finding here is that the Fusion's infrastructure is strictly IDE - and no amount of jazzing up the front-end is going to change that. Kind of like the outlet manifold is the size it is - no matter how hard we push from the other end - it ain' gonna exhaust any faster. Still, on the POSITIVE side - we have COOLER Running - which has GOT to be good for longevity. Better QUIETNESS in the Studio. Better TRANSPORTABILITY if gigging the beast. A weight off the mind of the roadies AND performers. Despite achieving this far - I am still of the opinion that SATA may be possible! We just need to find the CORRECT converter board. There won't be a speed bonus, but it WOULD probably allow a hot-swap (- or possibly not) caddy arrangement at 90 deg to the present HD, with a slot in the back of the Fusion. Pop-in SSDs without opening her up! (Searches for 2.5" PATA "Caddy" systems came up 0) IF the Fusion COULD see 2 internal drives (Master and Slave) correctly ribboned and jumpered, THEN the <Copy Volume> option in the Global menu could become very useful. Depends how intelligent the controller/OS is . . . . The SSD I used was set to MASTER I SHOULD have tried setting it to Slave - then we'd know (doh!) Best Regards parametric

I am a happy fusion owner since 2006 (my god!) and this is may be the reason to start gigging again with. I've just ordered SSD, once arrived, I'll bother you about installation (I've installed memories and everything else on my own, but just in case ) Thanks guys, all your devotion is much appreciated.

This is kind of an answer to my prays. I was about to check with a couple of IDE to SD card converters I have rediscovered sleeping in a box aruond my home, but this is an already proved solution to get away the noisy HD from the lovely Fusion.
So many thanks!

Welcome to the forum pablofcid . . . . .
I think you will be pleased with the project.
You don't say WHICH Fusion you have, but the SSD is MUCH cooler running than an HDD.
This will be particularly noticeable if you have a 6HD - which has been infamous for running hot.
The document is describing an 8HD. A 6HD is more crowded and it will possibly be more difficult to get the HDD out.
My 8HD is now VERY quiet. The small fan near the PSU seems not to make any noise . . . .
Good luck anyway . . .
Hope it gives your Fusion a new lease of life!
DON'T forget to back up your Fusion HD to your PC BEFORE you install the SSD!

Congrats, parametric!
I still wish very much that someone would come forward and explain what the f*** it is that prevents a SATA SSD + IDE adapter combo from working in Fusion! I hate it when these kinds of things are left unexplained.

I hate it when these kinds of things are left unexplained. On that matter all I can say is contact Alesis Tech Support, the more people that do this the better are our chances of getting support for the Fusion Call 1 888 800 0681 and ask for Tech support. Also the more people that call Chicken Systems 1 800 877 6377 and ask for Fusion Creator the more likely they are to finish it and release it.
