Now I'll have to install one in a computer upside down to see if it will hold up, but I don't think it will be a problem I have extra wide Velcro with some very sticky adhesive on it, sounds like a fun little experiment If it should fall that will be another experiment a minor shock test, it won't fall more than about a foot +/- if at all. I have been having fun fixing up a used 50cc mini bike my son bought for his daughter as a Christmas gift, should be finished with it in about a week.

Saw the below today while looking for something else so thought I'd asked (I no longer keep up on "stuff" while I build my own desktop systems (work and gaming and DAW) about every 4-5 years, but after initial "whats' the current bleeding edge" to use I don't pay any further attention. I'm not the geek I was back in the PDP 11, Altair kit, etc. days - too much other stuff keeping me occupied. Crap just new computer music related SW and especially re-learning from Motif XS to Montage has eaten up all my brain cell allocations for this past year) BUT why can't we use this: www.amazon.com/2-5-SATA-SSD-Drive-Adapter/dp/B0049D7PCUand most ANY SATA (128GB or less ) SSD?? (of course need a power connector adapter and way to install/mount) wouldn't need to find, or rely on finding, a PATA/IDE SSD drive - correct? (don't laugh if this is clearly obvious to the causal observer) Thanks

Hi BP . . . .
There may well be no reason why that adaptor would not work. Just needs some enterprising soul to buy it and try it . . .
All I can say is that many different ones have been tried and none have worked - so far . . . .
Why this should be so, I don't know. They all protest wildly that they are 100% compatible blah blah blah - but IME it just ain't true.
This is why I was so delighted to find PATA SSDs . . . One less hoop to jump through IYKWIM . . .
THAT adaptor certainly does look NEAT - and would be a real find - IF it works.
We really NEED to be finding a way to make SATA SSDs possible - if only because the PATA ones aren't going to be around for ever . . .
And hell will probably freeze over BEFORE InMusic get around to redesigning the Fusion mobo with a SATA controller on it . . . .
Sure they make all the "We'll pass it to our development team" noises - but nothing has ever come of any requests that I know of . .

I may give it a go when when I finally open it up to R&R the battery (another thread) and the R&R non-CCFL display (as a preemptive measure) while it's open.
My problem is I have no heart burn spending a few bucks on the adapter - I just have have no SDD's in my house. I've got 2.5 & 3.5 IDE's and 3.5 SATA's but no SDD's and not really up for buying one just to "try it" so I'll have to find relatively cheap one just to test when the time comes.
Like I said in a another post, given the small load time improvements you and Jesse have posted, and the fact that I don't gig and don't play hard (actually akin to "hunt and peck" typing) so low/no G-force on internal components there is no real driving force for me to upgrade to SDD on the Fusion other than grins.
but good to know it was not a DUMB question ; just may not work given history of such things to date.

That's about right BP,
So far I've not needed to address the battery OR display yet on either of my Fusions.
Jesse very kindly shipped me two of those displays (as they don't ship to the UK) - so I'm equipped when the time comes . . .
Like you, I don't gig - but I bought the 6HD "in case" I want to take it somewhere. I cloned the 8HD's SSD so BOTH my Fusions are Identical and have ALL my
sounds and compositions on. I LIKE the way the 6 and the 8 are identical in this way . . . .
I guess the SSD thing was more of a "because I could" thing really - though let's not forget SSDs tend to run cooler AND consume less power - so they are kinder to
the PSU - which IS a good thing . . . given that experience has shown that the design doesn't leave much "in reserve" and they are historically somewhat prone to failure.

Alesis Fusion affectionately known as "The Beast" That's a 44 pin IDE connector, the Fusion and all my old computers use a 40 pin IDE connector with either 40 or 80 wires. Looks similar to the 40 pin IDE to SATA adapter I tried I also tried a IDE to CF card reader with no luck

Yeah, that was kind of where I was when researching the SSD possibility. I decided to buy the SSD (I actually bought 2 in the end) knowing that if it did NOT work in the Fusion - then I would put it in a laptop I had at the time to replace IT'S IDE HDD. Happily, it DID work in the Fusion - and the "spare" I bought eventually ended up in the 6HD I bought a while ago . . . parametric

Alesis Fusion affectionately known as "The Beast" What's with these 44 pin IDE/PATA connections? Are the 44 pin connections providing 40 pin IDE/PATA connection plus a power source? IDE/PATA are 40 pin connections. PATA/IDE connections
