I am currently hoping to sample the content of my SY85 - having just got the (bug-fixed?) Fusion Creator update . . . .
I'm a complete novice at sampling, and am hoping the "AutoSample" feature will work as described in the docs . . .
Nevertheless, Cynical old ME is doubtful that it is a simple as that . . .
Last time I tried the feature - it didn't come even close to working - various input fields missing completely . . . .
We'll see if this has been addressed . . .
The 85 has 4 banks of 64 voices and 2 banks of 64 performances. There's a lot of very useable stuff there (IMO), but I need to get much more fluent in the way of combining the banks into 128 "programs" for the Fusion.
I guess this is what Creator should be good at?
Alesis Fusion 8HD AND 6HD - BOTH with/384mb Ram/120Gb SSD * Yamaha MOXF6 1Gb Flash * Akai ADVANCE61 * Yamaha SY85/8.5mb vol/1024k non-vol * Yamaha DX21 * Roland MT32 * Bachmann double overstrung Baby Grand Piano * Windows10 Pro * Ubuntu Mate 15.10 * iBook G4/Mac OS 10.4.6/ProTools 7.4 * MBox2 * M-Audio MicroTrack 24/96 * NI Komplete11 Ultimate
i have constructor i found the sampling cumbersome i use the emulatorx and sample robot which are much better its set and then it records and you can then choose thee format to save in here is a folder with 2 banks in both sampled from the sy99 one is fm bass sounds the other is a fm wurly bank i have a lot of gb worth of banks that i have been sampling for 28 years i do special sets for sy99 and the korg t1 t2ex/3ex trinity triton m3 kronos and ensoniq and kurzweil and roland synths emu and another folder of d50 patches
looks like fusion creator sets volume by velocity as additive problem with this is its sets 100%-100% and negative amounts just make it 100% to 0% depending on range which it sets 23 so velocity is 100%
we need it to be the opposite we need a velocity range of 0%-100% this needs to be set to multiplicative and for a full range of velocity we need to set to -100% which would give us the most expressive note playing
so each voice will need to be set correctly for velocity playing im going through them know once i have saved them all ill copy the folders so that they can be done properly for preset ill then send the preset file which you over place onto the samr folder which it will overwrite the existing with the correct data
so going through these presets fusion creator also does not do the keytracking properly so that higher notes decay just as long as lower notes which with the original file i created did not which means more editing it also did not put in the differences of velocity per layer which means you dont get the expression of the layers eing played soft and heavy
it really kills the the instrument file which on the ensoniq asr10 plays perfectly translated from translator i was hoping to get a 1-1 sound like i do on the ensoniq but fusion creator does not so its only really good for getting samples in you then really have to redo all the synth params to make it sound the same with out effects.
to get the keytracking correctly you need to set keytracking to 8 octaves set it to dec env1 set to additive this does the max time of envelope which we want for lower notes to the minimum time of the upper notes like a piano on mine i have set it to -80% which shortens the upper notes as these are looped samples if you dont do this they play for as long as the decay setting is set for the decay time which is ok for pads but not for piano or fm types as these are fm e-piano sounds from my sy99 we really need hem to act as a e-piano which have a decreasing expo curve over time
so it seems really useless in programming the patches before using fusion creator as fusion creator just ignores the programming spend hours programming to get them to sound right in sf2 format in awave for fusion creator just to mess it up and you have to re spend hours editing the sounds in fusion
i cant understand how they get it right in the ensoniqs but totally miss on the fusion
Right, exactly, we are extremely happy to address anything that you bring up, but mentioning it on the forum won't do any good because we don't go up on here. If forums had a email notification feature, we'd see things, but this one doesn't.
Just email us at support AT chickensys.com and we are very happy to do anything you tell us (pretty much).
i was using the free fusion convertor not the new version so i never had support from chickensystems i do have constructor and have put in problems which i can say they have addressed over time with new builds the only grip i have with it at moment is having to reset unlocking codes every once and a while which is just a pain.
but until cd of actual product is sent out i still have todo it
i used translator free mostly but just got translator6 so i can see if it does a better conversion of it i think the reason why they get the ensoniq right is they have been working with these machines for over 30+ years and know them inside and out
i can say there was a problem with the latest mac and ensoniq format last year but me and garth sorted the problem out again via the correct channels garth knows me so if he wants to send me emails he can
it might just be that because of lack of midi information or synth specs that the conversion process for presets might never work. As there is no sysex editor or sysex or midi specification for any parameters which makes changing presets hard as for samples the samples are converted properly. they are the correct pitch they sound the same so this might just be the way it is and all editing needs to be done in the synth which is time consuming with out a sysex spec for creating a sounddiver adaption or even a ctrlr panel.
once edited on the fusion can get them to be the same the fm bass sounds sound crisp and when putting them through the filter they rock but some of the ways controls are done is pita on the fusion like you set up a mod then choose say a lfo to filter cutoff it does it in an octave range and there is no amount which you can control which is way easier on the akai miniak.
i think there could be some os code changes to make it better but again if they dont release it then we will never be able to create a external control editor or add new functions like additional memory access or adding larger hd drives
i will be doing a tutorial on how to create prophet vs type sounds using very small wavetables which i have millions of.
i know mike peak who worked on these instruments so i can ask him if he knows of any of the source codes which was used i do diy modular and do designs which he looks over to check for errors he might be able to put us in contact with the actual design team which left when they got took over by the dj company the same for akai.
