Hi all,
after successfully repairing the backlight on my Fusion (with the LED strip trick..), I took it to a few rehearsals with no problems... However, i tried to turn it on today and ... nothing. Just blue screen, no text. Disk not spinning. Another attempt showed the boot screen but it hanged there and also no HD spinning. I opened it to check for disconnected cables and still nothing. I could think of maybe a power supply problem not powering the HD enough or maybe dead HD?
Any ideas of things i should try?
Thanks
Lars

Alesis Fusion affectionately known as "The Beast"
Take a close look at the power supply, look for burnt wires and/or connections, check power output on the PSU with a voltmeter if you can.
Connect Fusion hard drive to your computer if possible and see if you can read it, if you cna then copy the Fusion Volume Folder to your computer's hard drive.
Also try re-installing OS version 1.24 on the Fusion.
Keep us updated
Take Care ... Good Luck

Thanks Jesse,
will start by testing the HD as I don't have a voltmeter. The fact that it doesn't even spin but the screen lights up etc might be an indication that its the problem. Was there not an option to boot without the HD?

It might run with the hard drive disconnected, if so you should be able to play the ROM sounds

I had a similar sounding problem and it turned out to be the power supply. Perhaps you could borrow a voltmeter to check it or even just remove the PSU and visually check it. I've included a (blurry) photo of my PSU and as you can see, it's obvious that something has burnt out. I hope that your problem is just your hard drive.

Well, i did check the power supply a while ago as my Fusion had intermittent restart... the little resistor at the back of the PSU (or whatever its called) seemed to have spilled some black matter on the borda that seems to have dried on the surface. I cleaned it at the time (i.e removed the dried black stuff on the board) and it seems to have cured the intermittent restart...
Strangely, I was able to boot it ok yesterday , again... I have backed up the HD and reformatted it. Have used it for about an hour or so since with no problems....
Jiffy, how did you solve your power supply problem? Did you order a new one? I am a little bit reluctant to invest too much in it since they're 14 years old now and i could end up spending more than its worth... It still sounds good though :-)

It still sounds good though :-) I found that flexing the board (i.e. putting a bit of cardboard under one corner) cured it for a while, but in the end I had to buy a new PSU.
