Does anyone know where I can get some really hard hip-hop drums from? I'm looking for some long 808 kicks & things of that nature.

Hollow Sun has faithfully sampled the 808 (and the more gritty 909) - They're both in the HOLLOW SUN #05 - VINTAGE BEATBOX EXPLOSION!! download on the Alesis site. I suspect you might have to do some extra stuff with effect section to get the kind of effects you need (add some overdrive for instance) but the basic samples are pretty much there... After that it's the fun creative bit!

I'm late, but here's also some 808 stuff in still good quality. But you will have to create the Drum Program yourself... www.goldbaby.co.nz/freestuff.htmlLook for "Cassette 808".

They are 24-bit WAVs. They're good actually - a bit of 'edge' due to the cassette tape compression but not unduly so. It seems a bit potty to sample these in 24-bit given that they were recorded onto a tape medium with not much more than a 12-bit dynamic range but such is the madness of our number-obsessed specs! FYI, the 808 and 909 samples in HS#05 were sampled directly from the outputs of each machine with no processing so they're as raw as they get. The same applies to the Linn, Drumulator, Obie DMX, etc.. It's up to you to filth them up as you want. Steve
