Heeeelp!! My Fusion is dead!! Tried to put on my Fusion today but when switching it on a loud bang was what happened. Even the mainpower in my house went dead. I think a big shorting out.
I always was very afraid this would happen because of the IMHO immense heat in the Fusion!! I have no warranty anymore. Could anyone please tell me where i can go to have it repaired?? I live in the Netherlands. Who should i call??

Sorry to hear of your misfortune I don't think this has happened because the Fusion gets hot. It is probably due to a power surge from your mains supply or the internal power supply in the Fusion. Do you use a surge protected power supply? I always do as you can get a lot of surges and spikes of power that over time can shorten the life of your synth. This is what I understand in England, maybe it is different in your country. Hope you get it sorted.

You mean that i can repair this myself? That i only have to swap the PSU?? I think this IS because of the heating issue. I use a surge protection. The Fusion became very much too hot. I couldn't even touch the panel above the PSU. And why did i use several synths for years without any problem? This is really poorly designed IMHO. All my other synths didn't get that hot. It shouldn't be the case. But ok, let's hope it will not cost that much. I really like this keyboard, it's the best i have ever had, even after SY77, Trinity, T3 etc. I miss it already! :-(

Yes. I've done it myself.
It's a bit fiddly but a ten minute job. Assuming nothing else was damaged when it blew, it shouldn't be a problem.
But it's at the discretion of ELECTRIC INSTRUMENTS. Be nice, be charming, explain your situation - they may be agreeable to you doing it yourslf.

Steve Does the replacement of the PSU involve soldering, or does the new PSU come with the wires attached to it? Is it purely disconnecting and connecting of some connectors? If this is the case i think i will do it myself also. Maybe i should ask Justin Baro of Alesis if he could send me the service-manual of the Fusion. I heard from KPR, that there also seems to be a "colder" version of the PSU. Should i ask for this?

No soldering required. Undo four (?) screws to remove the transformer/components board, all the cabling's on plugs. Disconnect plugs, replace with new PSU, put cables back together. !!!!! MAKE SURE THE MAINS CABLE IS NOT CONNECTED !!!!! It's not difficult but like everything inside Fusion, it's fiddly. And yes - ask for the revised, updated PSU. The service manual is not required for this - anyone could do it. Just use some common sense. You might want to ask Justin of the part number for the improved PSU in case your distributor is not aware of it. I don't know but ELECTRIC INSTRUMENTS might have to order it from the US. In which case, why don't you speak to Justin first and see if they can send one directly (or from Alesis UK) to you? Good luck. Steve

Hi, I must say your experience worries me a bit, as it seems quite a few people have gone through the same problem.
How do we get hold of the new, improved power supply in the uk?

Hi, I must say your experience worries me a bit, as it seems quite a few people have gone through the same problem. Just to put the record straight, SOME people have had this. I've had it, Gwen had it and now mstsfreak. There was a chap a while back who had it (shame - he was a friend to whom I recommended Fusion ... it put him off). There may be some others I don't know about. However, quite a few people have complained about their Fusions running warm, even hot. I don't know if the two are related given that my 8HD wasn't running even close to warm but it still happened (it also happened on my Mac after years of faithful service to put things into perspective). In fact, my Fusion had been switched off for over a week when it happened so I am not sure the two are related. Furthermore, others complaining of their Fusions running hot have not had the problem. How do we get hold of the new, improved power supply in the uk? You can call Alesis UK and ask for one. I don't know if they will supply one and if they do, you will probably - almost certainly - have to pay for it even if your Fusion is within warranty because your Fusion is not faulty - you have chosen to want an alternative PSU. If the same problem happens to you, however, and your PSU explodes/expires, you can probably get one for free, maybe even if your Fusion is outside its warranty (no guarantees on that though). Steve

I haven't got any reaction from Alesis at this point. The office has been closed all weekend and they're not in yet (it's 6.40am there as I write). Steve

I spoke to Alesis UK who gave me a part number. I confirmed it with Justin.
He's a bit tied up first thing back after the weekend and a shedload of email to wade through so he's has asked me to tell you that the part number is :
9-79-0361
According to AUK, the price is £37.50 if the fault is out of warranty but speak nicely to them - they may be agreeable to waiving that. No guarantees on that though.
Over to you.
Steve
