As already mentioned in the concerned "tweaking the Holy Grail Piano" thread in the user sounds subforum I am working on a new Grand Piano that covers all the wishes from Fusion owners I gathered through the last two years. It provides more velocity switches than the HG and allows a custom adjustment too. This is not all, the new "Fusion C maj 7/9 by kpr" will get you CP70, Wurlitzer, Rhodes and Clavinet too! Here is a sneak preview, I just pressed the record button and played live for 2 minutes: new GPIt looks good that I am done with it by this weekend. Howdie! Klaus

Has the time finally come to have great pianos and e-pianos on our Fusion ? Until now, there were decent attemps but (it's just my opinion !) nothing that could compare with the best pianos on nowadays hardware workstations (2 Gb software are not in the same category and should not be compared to hardware !). I thought the reason of the relative weakness of the pianos was the limited size and layers of the samples (and the lack of physical piano modeling) So till yesterday, I thought no effort (even with Klaus' or Steve's or Joeri's hard work and talent) would produce something sounding (and even more important, playing) as well as a Korg SV1, a Nord Stage or electro or a GEM RPX or Promega. So what's the secret Klaus ? Huge multilayered samples ?
Anyway, I really hope we'll soon have great pianos on our Fusion.

Well, I don't think that Fusion Grand Pianos can compare with special solutions like the SV1 (I love it) or the CP1 (I love it) or the V-Piano (I love it) or Ivory (I love it). To have a decent GP in the Fusion is worth the efforts though. Like other workstation keys (Motif, Oasys, etc.) it is always good to have one very nice one, or even more than just one, and use it in those situation where it makes sense. Consider that I used the factory HG (an edited version) as general GP for an entire CD album because it simply sounds good and it is cool to have just one GP sound overall to provide consistence. Also it depends on the actual song how the GP works, so it is helpful to have more than just one good GPs just by pressing a button. The new "c maj 7/9" will provide not only Grand Pianos but also Rhodes, Wurlitzer and CP70 (and CP80) and Clavinet. All those instruments are surely that, what every keyboarder is always looking for and it might be a kind of gambling, but hoo haa, this is it! is something we like. Of course even a sampled GP needs a little extra practice to get familiar with though. And in short: When I want an instrument to get into the Fusion, I simply do it.

Klaus I really liked the piano MP3 preview but LOVED the Rhodes preview!
I have found over time that I really do not like brighter pianos (for "cutting through") I like a slightly darker but not dull pianos ones with dynamics and resonant "brightness" but not bright (if that makes sense). Example your suggested mods to the Fusion piano, in another post, while it really seemed to improve the dynamics - it made it overly bright for ME especially in mid range keys. We all have our own tastes and needs. Your new MP3 sounds more like what I might be wanting - I have a Steinway I really like and I "moved" it over from a commercial library I had on another keyboard (can't share here because I asked the copyright holder and he said no and that's that ) but it only has two layers FF and MF and my skill at converting over and remapping and re-eq'ing is not all that good so it is only about 80% as good as on the original board but your new MP3 sounds like what I have been waiting for .
So awaiting your new library Larry

Available! All details on the product page www.backintimerecords.de/bitr022.htmI am very happy having this venture finished finally because it is a huge project not only to record and edit the right samples but even more to cut that down for Fusion's standard RAM which is only 64 MBs. Owners of the extended 192 MB RAM version get more out of this library as they can load even the largest 180 MB version with 5 velocity dynamics. The audio track is done with the usual 64 MB equipped Fusion though. Tune in here: Fusion C Maj 7/9 by kprIt comes with 50 Program Presets right away and an additional second bank is in the making too. For the second bank I will gather the experiences from those who bought it and consider their expectations and wishes concering the velocity settings, envelopes and room effects. Cheers Klaus

Ok, I have all the sample sets that contain pianos and EPs, including the Grand Piano sample package - so is this an "upgrade" to what I have, or does it have what I already have at this point? I'm confused.

No product upgrade, it is all new, Christian.
New Grand Piano samples, new CP80 samples, new Rhodes samples, etc. - everything new. New instruments organized, recorded, sampled, edited, trimmed, formatted to Fusion format and finally new Program Presets done. I guess you should have it :-)
Cheers
Klaus

>>> and EPs
Christian, this looks that you have the ROM-Expansion, and you should request the new 230 Presets for. Julia reported that she didn't got your request mail.

Klaus, Files are purchased and downloded onto my laptop but I can't install/try until this weekend away from home but while I wait: It’s almost criminal that I have no/little useful memory (that’s why I am a mathematician- a few simple axioms and the rest can be derived). I can remember only a few very famous names and only a few of the guitar players I try to pay tribute to by butchering their tunes so wityh that in mind Please for us ignorant types why “C Maj 79” (is this homage to some bodies Opus 79 that is in C Maj like Beethoven, Brahms, ) Or is that C maj 7 with a 9th or?? (just passing the time here) PS just bookmarked your new blog as well Larry

I mostly work with my own presets nowadays, I'm getting a better hang of programming it. So I've been putting off getting these but I eventually will. By the way Klaus, I think you know you still owe me the fix on something in the Grand Piano by kpr package, remember? I have to say, that new Rhodes sounds fantastic

Yes, you're right. It is the missing lowest two notes of the one Grand Piano. It look longer than expected to find out what really happened as I had no explanation for this profound mystery. In the first place I thought it was a data conversion problem, but it was, frankly, my own mistake: A specific function concerning a keyboard range assignment in a selector box of one of my audio editors was unchecked, and I didn't noticed that. In the meanwhile I fixed that and it will be part of a update of the Grand Piano library. There are some other improvements too, so I will submit a new data file when those things are also done. Sorry for the wait! Cheers, Klaus

(just passing the time here) PS just bookmarked your new blog as well Larry Oops, haven't seen your posting and question earlier. Yes, the name is the chord C maj 7 with a 9th and, as far as I know, in a leadsheet printed as C maj 7/9. I have a name brander for my products, not for every but for many and I explained her what the product is and for what etc. So she came up with this chord to get the complete idea under one hood. I like it, it is very unique for a soundware product. Julia reported that her mail with the download links came a day later than expected. It's a pity because I tried to come up with the new product at the weekend, as I know that you are at home then. Next time better luck :-) Cheers Klaus P.S.: In case you want to know who's the name brander - it is my wife Kathrin, she works for marketing agencies etc. Look here:
