Hi Guys,
By way of introduction, I was employed until the end of July 2009 as tech support Studios/Composition Suites in the Music Department of a UK University. Offered redundancy - albeit voluntary - I found myself somewhat at a loose end . . . and - yes, I'm an OLD guy ;D
This inconvenience caused me to drag out my Yamaha SY85, which had stood in a plastic bag at the side of my wardrobe for some seven years.
To my great suprise, the internal battery permitted bootup, and there was a demo (Syborg) still loaded in the sequencer . . . .
The floppy was "drive not ready" - no suprise really . . .
I bought the SY back in 1992 from the original owner - so both battery and floppy drive were I guess - "original". The battery read 3.1v.
All this activity has started me creating Music again and after browsing various forums I came across the Fusion, did a bit of research and decided I deserved an update. Don't get me wrong, I love the SY which is great to play and has some amazing sounds that still impress after all this time, but the I/O limitations were getting me down (720k floppy or MIDI Dump - great if you like growing your beard really long . . .)
SO last Saturday, I purchased a Fusion 8HD. It has the 80Gb drive and the 1.24 OS though the memory is unexpanded. As a piano player, Its great to have the 88 notes, though I was a little alarmed initially that there was no touch sensitivity, A quick ferret around the forums led me to the <Gobal> settings and I applied Linear response. Excellent expressivity is now possible (phew). This is obviously an instrument of awesome capability and I look forward to learning how the hell to even come close to to fully utilising it.
Best Regards
