Did anyone install the E-3 module ? Is i t easy to plug, like in a computer ?
Is it a 128Mb memory block or do you need to buy 2 modules to have a fully expanded Fusion ?

I haven't done it, and it is a bit of a DIY challenge (Not like plugging in DIMM memory in a PC) Have a read of this baxweb.com/Fusion/8HDUpgrade.pdfStep-by-step guide

Ok, thanks for this doc. It doesn't seem to be harder than changing the backlight of a LCD screen or replacing some switches (since for the memory upgrade you don't have to weld anything). But 2 E3 are necessary and it's quite expensive for the moment. I'll wait until january to do this.

You may want to check your local dealer to see if an E3 constitutes one or two parts; otherwise you might end up ordering two E3s and wondering what to do with two memory upgrades... Certainly from reading the part descriptions (vague as they are) at the dealers who supply it here, I was left with the impression that you get both parts when you buy a memory upgrade (but I could be wrong).

Hi Deweak
I installed the E-3 memory myself and it makes a big difference in overall performance and stability in general . I don't get spurious errors like I did when it was the stock machine. My 8 hd is rock solid !!
You do need two E-3 memory cards. I believe you can purchase both of them from Sweetwater ( in the US) for $160.00 + shipping. I bought mine from Alesis parts dept. for $205.00 shipping included.
Bax came up with the directions, which are very good.
Good luck

Thanks, so in the boxes that dealers sell, there is only one E3 module, that's it ? Here, in France, they are quite difficult to find and many of the US stores don't ship items worldwide. I may try in Germany or UK.

That's right
The E-3 memory module comes in it's own box and it takes two of these to do the memory upgrade .
I'm sure alesis parts dept would ship to the UK. If not they will tell you where you can purchase them!!
This is well worth the effort !!

WTF! These are £14/module cheaper than Digital Village, but DV do have a price match promise. Paul

Thanks a lot. I've sent an e-mail to them in order to know the shipping charge to France.
Excuse me, but my English is not good enough to understand one thing : in this site, E3 is labelled "128 Mb memory unit for Fusion". So I won't have to buy two E3 boxes (2x76 £) ? In one box, there are two 64Mb modules, that's it or not ?

Also give Turnkey a ring - they're advertising the E3 at £90, but they also call it a "256Mb upgrade for the Fusion", which suggests that your ninety quid would get you a pair. As I understand it, one E3 module has 128Mb on it, but you need one for each DSP - they don't share memory - hence the need for two. (I suppose it might be possible to only install one, but the Fusion might get a little confused about one of its DSPs having 3 times as much memory as the other one - but on the other hand, if you run your Fusion in "optimise for load time" mode, the second DSP is effectively turned off anyway, so it might work...)

Hi guys
You have to have two E-3 modules, one for each V -engine.
The E-3 modules are sold individually , but you need two to do the upgrade.
Each Module is 128 mb , so that's 128mb per V-engine added to the standard 64mb per engine , giving a total of 192 mb per V-engine.
The Fusion works better with the upgrade! I think 100 % better!

Richey, each module has 4 memory chips on it right two on the front and two on the back. those chips are 256 megabits or 32 megabytes each, 8bits make a byte (256/8=32).
How many chips are on each module?
4 chips per module would equal 128 Mb per module.
2 chips per module would equal 64 Mb per module.

Sorry but I am thoroughly confused (easily done!)
For clarification (I don't have the memory expansion), when you buy the expansion upgrade, what exactly do you get?
My assumption has always been that you get what is required to expand Fusion's memory to 192MB (however that is achieved).

My assumption has always been that you get what is required to expand Fusion's memory to 192MB (however that is achieved). Steve Mine was, too. But in fact when you buy an E3 module, you just get half of what you need to fully expand your Fusion. I find it ridiculous... why selling unusable memory chips ? Alesis should make a complete upgrade pack. Communication is confusing, too : all the website where you can buy E3s indicate "128 Mb expansion", whereas you need two to reach the 192Mb of RAM... I've just ordered two E3s in UK. Shipping cost was £15 for France. It's a bit expensive but French dealers for Alesis products are very rare. I'll tell you if the operation is difficult (I'm not a specialist, but quite used to screwdriving )
