Throughout this next 12 to 18 months I'm planning on getting together a good little selection of hardware. For the most part I know what I'm after and I'll be ordering much of it in the beginning of next year (along with an 8HD :-)) but there's still a couple of bits where I'm unsure. I'm not interested in digital stuff and would ideally like valve based equipment but any good analogue will do! If I can I'd rather buy new but as with a few things I've bought in the past I'll go down the ebay route if its worth it. Can any of you recommend anything?
E.Qs I'm after a good stereo 4 band parametric E.Q but it seems that in the past few years many have gone out of production. The only ones in my price range that I've found so far are the Behringer (which I wasn't too impressed with) and TL Audio models. Are there any others for £500 or less? At a later date I'll also be after 1 or 2 other E.Qs. These don't need to be as well specified so shelving high/low bands and a semi-parametric mid would be fine. Some of you may think that a half decent mixer would be good here but I can't justify having one when I'll probably only need 2 stereo channels of it. Besides which, rackmount E.Qs would probably be of a higher quality.
Compressor I all ready have bass/guitars covered in the form of my ART nightbass and as I love the sound of ART compressors I'll be ordering an ART VLA for use on the overall mix and vocals. The problem with the VLA is that it's a relatively slow compressor so it's probably not best used on drums. Getting the drum sound right is very important to me as I mainly do Industrial/synthetic and metal style drumming. So, can anyone recommend a compressor for about £300 or under that really excels for that kind of drum track?
Any other gear I'm just after ideas for the future here really but whats your favorite bit of outboard? Filter banks, effects, gates, whatever! What are the bits that you find most inspiring/useful. Mines the ART Nightbass, I've wanted one for about 10 years and about 2 months back I found a good one on ebay. With 4 preamp circuits (2 solid state, 2 valve), Fantastic sounding analogue E.Q, compressor/expander/limiter and exciter. Plus basic sampling and all the digital effects you can shake a line6 modelled stick at, I don't think I'll ever need another guitar effects processor!
Thanks in advance!
