Hi everyone, I just took delivery of my Fusion 8HD yesterday (after following a few threads on the Sound on Sound forum), and have to tell you, I'm blown away with the sound of this thing! Although it was never part of my plan, I'm probably going to sell off quite a few bits of my older kit, as I just can't imagine I'll be switching them on any more (Korg Triton Rack will go, Nord Electro and fully loaded Emu E5000 Ultra - might hang on to my Virus B for a while). Only thing I don't like is the look of the thing. Damn! It's ugly! Maybe I'll get used to it. I've used a lot of the Hollow Sun sounds in the past when I used to own an Akai Z4, so I'm looking forward to loading up those sound banks when I've worked my way through the sounds that are already pre-loaded. I have a huge collection of EOS format sounds for my Emu sampler - does anyone have any experience of how well they tend to translate with various available softwares (Translator, CDxtract etc)? Looking forward to getting to know you all better over the coming months, David

Welcome to The Club!
Glad you're happy with your purchase.
Chicken Systems do a (paid for) version of the Fusion convertor that can (I think) convert Emu stuff. Shame you didn't use your Z4 when you had it - it can read Emu stuff directly (and does a good job of converting) and you could have saved it in Akai format which would convert well with the standard Fusion convertor. Ah well - easily said in hindsight.
Yes, hang on to your Virus - it's VA 'sound' is slightly different to Fusion's - a bit 'fizzier', if you like.
I hope you get used to her appearance.
Steve

Welcome Wigworld! Great name btw... Its funny how some people love the Fusion's styling and others don't-it's definitely a Marmite reaction in the synth world!I love it personally,I find it quite retro-futurist.Looks gorgeous at night in the twinkling glow of my ORAC lightbox.I shall be filming a short performance in my studio tonight, another in my series of "The Asteroid Suite" videos-the Fusion always steals the show.

Just checking if you are in UK and if so where did you source your fusion from and how much did it cost as I am looking to get one soon and want the best price I can get. Sorry to be nosey! After a few days are you still as pleased and was it easy to update etc.

Hi nomusic, I got it from www.whybuynew.co.uk/ - they had it listed on their ebay shop. They don't have any fusions listed at the moment, but it might be worth giving them a call - or even call Alesis - they might be able to tell you who has them. It cost £499 for an ex-display model. I didn't need to update, as it had the latest OS ready installed. I haven't tried installing any new banks yet, as I'm still working my way through the pre-installed stuff - might take me a while!

It was in absolutely tip top condition - the only thing to indicate it was ex-display was the boxes it came in were sealed with brown parcel tape rather than staples or clear tape. Very happy with a great deal! ;D
