Would this be like a sample-based mellotron program bank? Is that what you mean by "vintage strings"?

Would this be like a sample-based mellotron program bank? Is that what you mean by "vintage strings"? No. Have a listen to B-3 (010) 'RP String Ensemble' in Hollow Sun 01 from Alesis - that's an ARP 'Solina' string synth. String synths are very different to Trons in that A) they work ( ) and B) the sound is generated electronically (a simple tone passed through a rich chorus unit). They pretty much killed the Tron dead in the market because they were cheap(er * ) and reliable and a lot more portable. They also didn't have the eight second limitation of course. (*) They were still more expensive than an 8HD (even more so considering the different values in money in the 70s compared with today - in today's money, an ARP Solina would probably set you back about £4,000!!!). It is amazing how things have changed though - back then, we were happy to hand over £1,000 for a keyboard that made one sound and had a really crap, non-velocity sensitive keyboard. And now people complain because the 6,000 sounds that their synth comes with is not enough for them!!! Steve

I did the Vintage String Ensemble sample library for the Evalon VST here www.backintimerecords.de/bitr046.htm , scroll down to see details about the string ensembles, what instruments and there is an audio track mp3 too to get you an impression how it sounds. The collection is rather large and the instrument list is long. As everthing sample related is already done I just need to convert the samples with the Fusionconverter, move them to the Fusion and make Presets. So it could be done rather quickly. (But I don't want to hijack electric's 2 VA thread now for this, perhaps we can start a new thread with a wishlist.) Cheers Klaus

I know that, and I love it! But there're just some more string ensembles than the ARP Solina...

They do have a tendency to sound awfully similar to each other though.
Funnily enough, one of my favourite ever string machines was a Crumar 'Performer' ... it was really quite inexpensive but sounded great. It also had a trigger and raw audio out so I was able to use it with my ARP Axxe to do some very good ARP Omni impersonations.

In a way you are right, Steve. The sound is not toooo different as they are all stringers. But they all have an individual character though and indeed the Crumar Performer has a nice one. I sampled so many from Korg Lambda, Roland VP330, Polymoog to Elka Rhapsodie, and I like them much. I owned a Hohner String Melody II as well as a Korg Delta. But I'm still looking for an ARP Quadra. I never heard a deeper string pad than from this big beast. As far as I know Tony Banks owns one, but I lost his mobile phone number ;D

Ah ok, thanks guys. I'm familiar with the Solina, though I've never seen one, much less played one Klaus, your definition of vintage strings seems to cover pretty much all "analog strings" including Jup-8s and Matrix 12s. It does get blurry even though there were "string machines" being released at the time, yet I'd rather have Jupiter-8 strings than pretty much any dedicated string machine Also, your "Box" account seems to have reached its bandwidth limit.

Yes, there must be a high number of clicks to my box.net account mp3s to take the bandwidth above the limit of 10 GBs per months! Perhaps I should upgrade to their next plan, or move the mp3s to my new download server system.

That Vangelis pad is loads better than mine.
Any chance of re-posting it somewhere? badongo.com seems to be down for me.

Badongo are currently upgrading their site so try checking back another time... However, if the files have been lost, Electrique is no longar an active member as he has sold hid Fusion... Maybe someone else has them who could upload them.
