I just purchased a refurbished Fusion 8HD directly from Alesis. Has anyone else had experience with getting a refurbished unit? The keyboard simply comes in a brown box with a 90 day warranty. I'm curious if the stock sample memory is adequate for most casual use. Is the extra memory a "must have" for this instrument and if so, where does one purchase it? I'm looking forward to playing my new instrument.

Congratulations on a great synth You can get the memory directly from Alesis. I think that's the way to go now, since most stores have run out of them, but Alesis will continue having it for a while as they also make the same stick for the MPC5000. I recommend the extra memory if you plan on playing it live. If you only play it in the studio and don't mind load times pretty much every time you change a sound, then it's ok to stay as you are. But if you put the extra memory you can load a bunch of your sounds at the start of the gig and then switching between them is seamless. If you plan on importing sound libraries, you can also make larger multisample sets with the expanded memory - up to 64Mb. I'd stay within 32Mb for a single multisample set if you don't have the extra memory. If I was able to expand my Fusion, everybody probably can

I am happy to report that I received my refurbished Fusion 8HD in excellent condition. Not a mark on it. I ordered and received the memory upgrade from Alesis and successfully installed it. It appears that I received a refurbished unit that had originally come from Sweetwater, because it arrived with the latest OS with all of the Hollow Sun updates and Sweetwater extras installed on the HD. A real bonus. Have no fear as to ordering one of these refurbished units.
This keyboard is fantastic. It certainly never got it's full credit. I'm very grateful for this forum and it's support for this truly amazing Synth.

Good to hear As I always suggest at this point, just take it quiet and give her a good seeing to, make sure she's all ok. Check out the sounds (there are squillions in there if you have all the Sweetwater stuff as well)... Resist the urge to stuff her full of dodgy soundfonts from equally dodgy websites ... for now at least until you've really found your feet. Enjoy!! Steve
