Ride of the Ranyhyn:- It is inspired by 'The Chronicles of Thomas Covenant' and is meant to represent horses! www.myspace.com/paulrwoodwardI opened a MySpace account to share a tune, but I think I should have chosen a different host, as MySpace doesn't seem to allow me to add any notes for the tune. (At least, I can't find a way of doing it!) Anyway, it is 100% Fusion. There are a couple of things I'm not happy with, one of them being the minor section at about 1:20. Any comments appreciated. There are a couple of other tunes on there which were done on the Ion for my mates amateur dramatics.

I think it's bloody excellent. Reminds me of Larry Fast and it sounded remarkably 'Moogey' in places. About the minor excursion at 1.20, if you don't mind me suggesting, I think it might be improved if you changed the leadline sound. There's nothing wrong with the modulation musically but the brassy lead continuing on doesn't do it any favours (IMO). Also, that fugue section where you have the different melodies playing off against each other, I would make more use of panning so that each part in the fugue had its own 'space' - as it is, I feel they're a bit jumbled and you can't really appreciate their interaction. But very good. If I had a iPod, I'd have your tune on it! Cheers, Steve

Absolutely brilliant Paul!! Great composition and very well played ... love this one Re: your myspace page ... it looks like it is a musician's account so if you go to profile then edit and 'about Paul Woodward' you can put details about yourself (if you wish) but you can also put in some notes about your tunes here also ... that's the way I got around this issue. You should maybe add the tag of 'Composer' after your title ... I think it would fit well Good job, well done and I liked your other tunes in the player as well You could always post here on the forum some notes re: this tune also ... just a thought Best regards ... Rainbow:)

Tasty piece indeed. Pretty upbeat, I like it. The gliss section, where it musically breathes for a moment, is a nice contrast to the constant run of triplets. And I came to the same conclusion that Steve suggested -- the minor section isn't too bad, but a contrasting lead instrument would set it apart momentarily in a good way. Overall, very good, keep up the good work.
I like the adventure and direction of all your songs. Always nice to hear orchestrated instruments mixed well, especially in a different genre other than typical electronica/ambient/techno/dance/acid.
Nice smooth sizzling lead on Ice Queen. Are you by chance also a guitar player? You seem to like triplets, which is also a refreshing change from 8 bars of 16ths repeated 8 times like most sequenced stuff is.

I think it's neat. It's very Sonic the Hedghog. Do you enjoy old school video games? I'm detecting a hint of that. I would bring the drums up a bit. Also, myspace is horrible for music. They compress the sound so much and, to my ears at least, it really makes the quality quite shitty. Try www.reverbnation.com There you have unlimited numbers of tracks you can upload and they don't do any compression of your music; CD quality. And it's free. I'm happy to hear good music made 100% fusion. Keep at it.

Thanks for all your comments.
I'm reworking the minor section and sorting out the panning and will post a new version when finished.
No Psionic, I'm not a guitar player, (I have enough trouble with keys!). I did toy with learning the guitar twenty or so years ago, but the learning curve was too steep and I wasn't prepared to spend enough time with it.
Sonic the bleedin' Hedgehog - WTF etherealnate!!! (Just joking!) I've played my share of old video games, so maybe it's a subconscious influence. I kept the drums down in the mix because, basically, I thought they were/are crap. I'm certainly no drum programmer!
When joining MySpace, they ask what genre my music is. I put 'Other' What genre would you say it is?

This is really cool! Very cool! I hear also some wakemanesque style elements when changing the harmonies along with the leadline. Can't wait to listen to more of this.

Thanks Klaus.
Yes, I must admit, Wakeman was a big influence on me, pity I haven't got his talent/technique!
Maybe you spotted some of your patches in there, it uses quite a few.

Good job Paul!! I avoided making comparisons when you posted the first version but, as others have made comparisons, then I venture that I hear a lot of Greenslade in this one ('70s Prog Rock band & personal favourites), I hear more of Wakeman in the other three tunes Nobody has replied to your question as to what genre your music falls into ... well, to my ears your current tunes fall into electronica; prog/classic rock & film/games categories ... just my opinion I'd still be interested in which Fusion patches you used on this one ... and the other three tunes for that matter. I think I recognise a couple, but it would be interesting to hear from you Cheers ... Rainbow:)

I've uploaded an updated "Ride of the Ranyhyn" on MySpace. Excellent! I might extend that minor section, make it more of a feature. Steve

Well done, great arrangement ! Fusion is really good in many styles when it's well programmed :-)
