I'm listening Inreality. I find that there are some timing issues in the drum part and I'd mixed the sync lead a bit lower. It would be nice to see the documentary with the music. Now it's Nostalgion. Why did you choose this acoustic piano and trumpet sounds The Fusion can do way better !!! That deserve this track cause you play well (the piano solo is great in that jazzy style) but the sounds you use, except the e-piano, are too cheap to simulate real instruments. Sorry for my hard comments, but you could have better results by a different selection of sounds !

Hi,
Thanks Deweak, I'm new to the synth music production (Fusion is my first synth), I've played acoustic instruments until last year, so any suggestion is great.
What did you mean by "mixed the sync lead a bit lower" - pitch or velocity to high ?
On Nostalgion I used my 2 favorite sounds :Road to Glory from Hollow Sun as e-piano and Stage GP from KPR. I wanted to use guitar instead acoustic piano, but as a former guitar player I can't overlook lack of dynamic in guitar sounds (except for rhythm). And I really wanted to use sax sound, but they are average at best, so I opted for this trumpet because there is "some" dynamic in this program.
Can you tell me what sonuds would you use ?
Anyway, this is just a draft version, and your suggestions will help.
Thanks, Meshax

I meant the ths lead is too loud for me. Sometimes, no sound is better than a bad one. I think that when you record songs only with synth, it's very important to pick only the best sounds you have.

Hi deweak
You wrote "it's very important to pick only the best sounds you have" and I agree, but how do we choose what's "the best"? Is "the best" what you like or what I like or is there "the best" in music at all?
I actually really like KPR's Stage GP, but I'll try other options, and if I find combination I like more, I'll post new version.

There's no rule to chose sounds, it's a question of personal taste. But when you mix your song, if you always have to consider each track as a part of an ensemble. For instance, if I need a pad I'll look for the one I imagine in all my synths, and it's a long process. But even if I think it's a killer pad on it's own, sometimes when I start mixing the song I remove it since it doesn't fit in the arrangement.
For the sax and trumpet sounds, I think I'll not use the Fusion's ones since I don't find them realistic enough. The only winds and brass I use in the Fusion are flutes and brass ensembles, but in general I prefer the V-Synth GT for solo instruments.
After all, as I said it's a question of personal taste and your choices are yours. Do what you want :-)

It's pretty solid. In Reality: since it's all synth it's wise to use the quantize function. It didn't sound like you did use it but I could be wrong. Nostalgia: Sounds solid as well. I would add a little bit of gate reverb to the drums and since a trumpet is going to sound like a synth because it is played on a synth, why not find an interesting FM synth sound that has an organic quality to it, perhaps one that closely resembles a trumpet? Why not really go for the nostalgia factor? Of course that is my taste and what I would do. Keep up the good work.

Hi etherealnate,
You guessed right, I don't like to "quantize" music, it sounds artificial to me. I do editing on tracks manually (it is slow), but I like to hear real playing on the tracks, and not machine doing it for me. On the Inreality track there is an error (quantize will not help here) on the drum part I "neglected" (will be corrected today).
As I said both songs are just first drafts, and I'll post new versions over the weekend (need time to try different sounds).

I'm digging them Good sounds and production and if you didn't quantize, you did a very good job because it sounds tight!
