Although I am a huuuuge california lover I didn't had the chance to visit NAMM this season. So I decided to make a daily virtual visit by checking the clips at youtube. It is fun, just click the option "uploaded today" and I can select my favorite ones. There are several hundred more clips there, so this is just a fraction of those that hit my personal interest. As I just finished a new sample library (the name is "Buntkling" and the content is plastic fantastic and cheesy portable keyboards from the early 80s, Farfisa Compact organ, Toy Piano, Cartoon vocoder phrases, recorder played by a child, etc.) I am a bit too busy to include my comments this time. Hope it is inspiring for you too!!
Here are a few of those, perhaps you have entertainment too!

The VP-7 looks and sounds interesting...I thought that the VP-770 was great also but a little expensive for a one trick pony.

Am I alone in thinking that the Akai iPK25 & SynthStation app are just a bit too gimmicky and really not befitting of such a company? Or maybe that's where Akai are headed now... the cheap, cheerful, "me too" market...

You're alone! I have it here on an iPod Touch - it's fab fun... TR808 style grid drum and sequencing, FAT 3 osc analogue synth, arpeggiator, great Kaoss X/Y controller that's assignable to anything (cutoff, res, pitch, filter env, amp, lfo depth to pitch and filter, etc.), effects, little mini MPC, etc.. Even without the add-on keyboard thingy, it's good fun and is going to sell truckloads!! With the add-on keyboard doodah, it's a good bit of kit (if you have an iPhone/iPod Touch) and a cheap way to get a good synth for noodling with or gigging. I'm surprised at you Rob - I thought this would be right up your street!
