Again I was hired to do little shows at the Musikmesse, this time the toy of desire was the new Arturia Origin keyboard as it is finally not a prototype anymore and available soon. I had the drummer Torsten Bugiel with me, he played the FXpansion BFD and the new BFD Eco via a Yamaha E-Drum. Torsten also did the entire drum parts for my latest Milo's Craving album, so we are quite tight together even on a place like the overloud Musikmesse.
There should be some youtube clips too and as soon as I found them I will post it here.
Musikmesse Frankfurt was a moment for the most manufacturers to show their new gear and polish their public image too. In my spare time between the shows I took the chance to get some informations about those new instruments. So I saw demonstrations of the Eigenharp instruments and I must say that this is far more impressive than I thought when watching previous video clips. Roland came up with the little Gaia synth and although it looks a bit like a toy the sound is not bad at all. Helmtronic, a german Formant modular synthesizer manufacturer, presented his new Challenger, a nice looking synth with a cool general sound character. Steinberg presented the new HALion Sonic, a software based workstation where the sample content was created by the Yamaha Motif crew, sound really great, love that! Open Labs showed touchscreen based VST host, everything is housed in the hardware like the Muse Research Receptor, and you can even organize and "paint" own controller screens. The PreSonus Studio One got an update, this is really easy-to-use stuff! I played the Rhodes Piano, a newly built original Rhodes with tines, hammers, and it sounds terrific. Incredibly good with a specially designed amp w/speaker system like the old suitecase. And you can get one with MIDI too. Radikal Technologies, the man behind that is mainly Jörg Schaaf, did the new Accelerator, a fat sounding synth keyboard with a special modulation option: Raise the instrument on one side and you get pitch effects and things like that. The real Mellotron comes back, incredible! Looks like the DJ-scene instruments and those for hands-on musicians are now two seperate things, finally.
Like always the Musikmesse was a cool event and I did meet even Fusion owners who shared their experiences!
