I am looking at purchasing a 6hd, however there are some issues with it. Wanted to see if it would be worth it. First off there are 11 keys that don't work 9 of which are the beginning of the lower register. Is there a setting that would do this or is it broke? Also, there is a error message upon booting that a ROM test failed. Lastly, all the outputs clip at a low volume, and the headphone out only outputs left channel. Is this thing a lemon?

Hi mdbeats, and welcome to the forum . . . Sounds like it may have been bounced . . . .and ought to be a "spares or repair" price tag . . . I've only had my 8HD for a few months and thankfully I've had no issues with it. If it is very cheap, then it may be worth taking a punt on it. Perhaps the keys have become dislodged and could be repositioned - if you are happy to open it up and have a go. The real point is, it needs to be cheap enough, that if you need to send it to Alesis for a repair, that the total you have paid still represents a bargin that you are happy with . . . .a difficult one to call! If you went this route, you would end up with a fully serviced 6HD and a certain amount of peace of mind with the warrantee on the repairs that were made. - (I'm sure Alesis offer some sort of warrantee on paid-for repairs . . . .) I'm assuming that that you do not actually HAVE the 6HD - but are merely CONSIDERING this purchase. If you can get hold of it then you can try the following: Turn the unit on in Diagnostic Mode (i.e. while holding down “1” and “8” buttons) and run through all of the non-destructive Diagnostic Tests (don’t re-calibrate anything and don’t run any of the Media tests at this stage). This will give you an idea of anything seriously the matter with it. I am thinking that you probably don't need all this grief and you would probably be best advised to wait until another 6HD becomes available on ebay that has no issues . . . . Perhaps this one? cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=130472128934&ssPageName=ADME:B:SS:GB:1123Best Regards parametric
