I'm a little confused about the difference between stuff that lives in ROM and items that live on the hard drive. Every synth i have owned that had upgradeable ROM was either in the form of a card or add on board.
I see there is a ROM expansion 2.0 available , Is this a plugin board that requires opening the unit up? How is this upgrade installed?

All the factory sounds are in ROM, the Fusion has virtually unlimited expansion for new sounds by storing them on the hard drive, when you use the sounds on the hard drive they are loaded into Fusions memory, either 64 Mb or 192 Mb if E3 modules are installed.
The Fusion uses the hard drive instead of expensive and limited ROM expansion cards.
The ROM expansion sound banks 1-4 by kpr do not physically expand the ROM memory, but create new sounds (programs) based on the factory samples and/or programs in ROM memory.

So its not really a ROM expansion in the true sense of the term. Thats why i was so confused.

The ROM expansion sound banks 1-4 by kpr do not physically expand the ROM memory, but create new sounds (programs) based on the factory samples and/or programs in ROM memory. Like the Korg Kronos the Fusion ROM Expansion is on the internal harddisk, no additional board required. The Fusion ROM Expansion Programs are based on the NEW sample content. Some Programs are using additionally internal factory samples, usually for OSC2 to 4. Also the "Additional Program Presets Banks for the Fusion ROM-Expansion" are using the new and factory samples.

Thanks for the additional info klaus
So are Fusion Rom Expansion 1, 2, 3 & 4 programs based primarily on your Fusion Samples 1, 2, 3 & 4?
