HI all I'm new to this board and desperatly need advice. I brought a brand new 8HD out to Bulgaria as the selection of workstations over here was poor to say the best. This was about 6 years ago. I have however used it very little and have never really come to grips with its full potential at all. Im not thick or stupid but the manual did make me feel like this. I suppose I am still stuck in my analogue roots being an old crinkly and all! If there was a problem with an old Moog, Korg or ARP it would be no problem - but his 8HD scares me to death! As I said I dont use it often but Ive just got old of an old tascam 8 track (I told you I am an old crinkly analogue man) and was going to start doing a bit of recording - but the 8HD is dead. On turning it on, the screen flashes as does the lights around the mod wheels but thats it - the power just seems to die after a split second. I thought it may just need rebooting (holding play and record as you switch on I believe) but the power doesnt last that long! When the screen flashes on there is no writing on the screen or anything. Is there an internal battery that may be the problem or is it a power supply problem? Is this a known problem? Or could it be something else not to do with the power supply? My wife went away for a week on a family visit so I thought great, a whole week of uninterupted recording - I didnt think Id have trouble from the Fusion! Any help would be really appreciated! cheers Steve (an Englishman stuck in a unexpectedly quiet Bulgaria! )

HI Jesse Thanks for that. I 've had the thing apart in the hope that it might be something obvious like a melt down or some such - but everything looks fine. I've checked for loose or dry joints and there is nothing obvious.
When I switch it on it does one of two things: A) the screen and sometimes a few of the background lights come on for a split second and then it just goes dead, or.. B) As above but there remains a "glow" on the screen - Ive left it on like this for upto 20 minutes but it does nothing more or less.
If I then turn it off and try again it reverts to condition A
I would think it needs a new power supply but would like your view as I dont want to shell out for one of those only to find its a hard drive problem or something else.
As the obvious sage of all things Fusion, what is you view Jesse (and of course anyone else who may be in the know)
Thanks for your time over this cheers Steve

Steve, if you have a volt meter and are comfortable using it with the Fusion turned on, you can check voltage outputs on the PSU When you have your Fusion open it is always good to take good pictures of everything before attempting any repairs. Even if the PSU checks out ok and if you get your Fusion working properly I would recomend buying a new PSU while they are available. Attachments:

Hi Jesse Sorry its been so long getting back to you - I finally got a new psu through Thomann in Germany - as many places wont post to Bulgaria! 100Eu including courier delivery so not too bad! I fitted it tday and all seems good - thank goodness for that! Two quick questions 1) on the old psu there was tape around the cables going to the farthest away connector - is that "special" shielding tape or just to keep the cables tidy? - do I need to use this "special" tape on the new psu cables or will gaffa do? or do I not need to use tape at all?
2) with the old PSU there was a big square metal piece with a hole through the middle - the cables passed through this - again the new psu hasnt got this - do I need to use this and if so what is it for? or again is it just for keeping the cables tidy? (It doesnt seem to have a proper place - its not screwed down to anything - it just seems to attach to the cables and "float around"
Thanks for all the advice previously - it gave me the confidence to tackle this - I never have any worries about diving into and old Moog or ARP!
Thanks in advance for any help you can be with these two questions. Steve

"I am not sure about that, there must be a reason for it or it would not be there so it would be best to re-install the same as the original. a. Does the outside of the cable cover conduct electricity? I would think not"2) with the old PSU there was a big square metal piece with a hole through the middle - the cables passed through this - again the new psu hasnt got this - do I need to use this and if so what is it for? or again is it just for keeping the cables tidy? I believe you can see it in the bottom pictureThanks for all the advice previously - it gave me the confidence to tackle this - I never have any worries about diving into and old Moog or ARP! Thanks in advance for any help you can be with these two questions. Steve I believe the power cable you are refering to is in the picture below Attachments:

Hi,
I can't remember what I did regarding the tape when I replaced my power supply, but I did re-use the square metal piece, I presumed it was some sort of ferrite core to reduce interference, but I am no expert in such things.
Hope this helps, cheers.
