Yes, there is something new coming, soundwise. It's about FM. Many of you might know the DX7 and all those other instruments that are pretty much the same, soundwise, where FM = Frequency Modulation is recognized as 80s E-Pianos, Funkbass, cheesy Brass, nice Harp and all this. But the Fusion's FM section is totally different compared to Yamaha's DX types. There is way more flexibility to combine the Operators for algorithm stack purposes and the chances to create unusual waveforms are much better. Not to mention the fantastic modulation options plus the multi-type Filter. This is the moment where I jumped in to come up with really new FM sounds. Although I am pretty familiar with the DX sound programming the Fusion's concept is so different that I had to study it in the first place. It took me many months to explore and discover the Fusion's FM. Then I decided to create a bank with really new sounds, never heard before, not comparable to other FM devices. The result is a stunning 128 sound bank. At this time I am polishing them here and there, doing the usual audio tracks to get you a clear impression what you can expect in a few days when the official product release will be. Stay tuned

I didn't spent much time on the FM part of the Fusion though some sounds using FM created by others (Steve, Klaus, Joeri, ..) were great. I'm sure it will be again a great quality library and a new (to me !) field of creation for our Fusion. Year after year, the Fusion remain a great synth that I use as much as my Kurzweil PC3 or my Blofeld.

I used to hate the DX7 back in the day because all of a sudden everyone became a synthesist without any programming knowledge. Everywhere you went from rock clubs to plastic clubs to weddings you always heard a DX7 somewhere. As my hatred grew for the instrument during the 80's, I did find that some of it's sounds were pretty good. I am looking forward to what Klaus has in store for us... www.soundofmusic.se/synthsandmore/dx7.htm

Thanks for your response, all usual suspects posted here ;-)) (No wait, I am missing Paul, Jim, Christian, Mike, David, Pierre and many more.) First of all the product name is done: Fusion New FM by kprand actually it says everything: It is new and has nothing to do with the typical 80s DX EPs. Thanks for the Chowning clip, Jo, this is very right as he is the one who inspired me most when it comes to FM synthesis. John Chowning once said to me: "... it is a discovery of the ear!" And this quote is describing that what I did with the Fusion's FM. I tried to forget all those cliche sounds we all know from DX7 times, and considering the Fusion's FM section as a completely new synthesizer under my fingers. The mentioned audio tracks turned out well, I do a compilation now and upload the typical kpr Presets medley in a little while. Perhaps I will explain more about the Fusion's FM a little later, currently I am experimenting with my camcorder to make sounddesign clinics and upload clips to my youtube channel. We will see! Cheers Klaus

So, here are the mentioned audio tracks demonstrating the new FM soundbank. You are the exclusive VIPs who have the chance to listen that before anyone else can! Also I will give you some behind the scenes informations how I did those sounds, what's the general concept and what are the categories and what can you do with the Controller assignments. First of all you should listen to them: Fusion New FM by kpr Track #1Fusion New FM by kpr Track #2You heard 26 Program Presets out of 128, and actually I could play each one as they all are so musically useful and also the sound comes with this kind of new touch. Why this? Well, the truth is that there are many many sounds out there, but sounds based on Frequency Modulation (= FM) are pretty rare, especially in these days. FM is a complex synthesis system based on John Chownings invention and it works with two components: Acoustic and Ear. In result a FM sound will always sound different compared to analog synthesis. It needs to study the FM synthesis, and I did that already back in the eighties and took the chance now with the Fusion. The Fusion's FM is a challange: You are free to organize the operators and you can assign Modulations as you want. This a bad situation if you are not familiar with FM at all, but great if someone knows how to make it. The results of the new "Fusion New FM by kpr" is a soundbank divided into the categories - Percussive - Bell - Bass - Lead - Pad - Synth Fx - Drums & Percussion - SFX All of them are programmed with full Controller assignment, so you can alter the timbre by simply turning a Controller Knob or pushing the Modulation Wheel - no FM knowledge required! But this is not all, I also used the innovative Fusion parameters to shape and polish the FM Presets further more: Filters and effects. This is not all, I strongly recommend to mix those FM sounds with analog type sounds for even more excitement and you should access the Mix mode for this. Select a part for a percussive FM sound and add a part two for a VA pad sound! Or simulate something like the vintage TX816 and stack up to 8 or 16 FM sounds in the Mix mode. In general this new FM soundbank turns your Fusion in a completely new synthesizer, one with a unique sound! Hope you have fun with all this! Cheers Klaus P.S.: Julia will update the website Fusion product page now and include the new soundbank into the online-store catalog and send out the usual newsletter.

Damned, both classic FM sounds and new territories to explore. A new must have for our Fusion. Klaus and the Fusion are still able to surprise me after all these years ! Great job.

But I just sent Julia an eamil and ordered (awaiting her reply so I can download)
LOVED some of the MP3 sounds - Looking forward (as always)

With "Fusion New FM by kpr" you get a completely new synthesizer, although as Fusion owner you already have it since long but perhaps you aren't aware it's real power. Surely a few FM based sounds can be found already in the factory Presets, but it's just scratching the surface.
Consequently I locked the new soundbank like a prisoner into a pure FM synthesis focused cell with 128 Presets. This is your basis for playing around with the Fusion's FM synthesis. You don't need to know anything about FM synthesis nor to press the EDIT button to change things, everything important of those ready-to-use sounds is already connected via Controller. And this is your new playground: Don't expect the typical "analog synth" parameter control, this time we do it different. So you can explore each single Program Preset from scratch, check the assigned Controllers, play with them and don't forget the Velocity, a typical facette of the FM synthesis because this technology makes a electronic sound very dynamic.
For sure there is also the option to include Filter, and the Fusion offers so many Filter types which makes it a challenge not to use them. And even FM synthesis profits from Filter, at least as a color variation. And finally there are the Effects. But, as usual, FM synthesis works dry and wet. The result is a very pleasant and direct sound experience, not comparable to any other synthesis.
This new soundbank allows you a entry into the exciting world of Frequency Modulation and no extra skills are necessary. Just play the Presets and turn the Control Knobs, interesting experiences are guaranteed.
Wishing you a lot of fun with the Fusion's FM capibilities!
Cheers
Klaus
