HI, I just upgraded my memory to 192mb on my Fusion 6HD, it took a while, mostly because of the glue around the connectors. I was going to also upgrade the hard drive but could not figure out how to remove it. There is a wire harness across the hard drive and I could not figure out where or how the hard drive was attached. I referenced the assembly pdf and it indicated 5 screws needed to be removed but 4 of those appeared to be screws already removed when opening up the Fusion, and I could not determine what other screw I was supposed to remove. It was really "packed" around the hard drive with hardly any working space. Anyone have any information on how to replace the hard drive on the 6HD? Thanks for your help. Art

I don't know about the 6HD, but in the 8HD the hard drive is attached to two side brackets which are in turn attached to the Fusion case by 4 screws, 2 of which can not be removed until you remove the IDE cable and power connector from the hard drive.
Did you take any pictures you can post, preferably sharp high quality pictures?

Great picture, wow the Hard Disk drive & PSU are really packed in tight in the 6HD no wonder heat is a bigger concern in the 6HD's. Thanks for sharing Looks like you have the old version PSU, you can tell by the short stubby heat sink

I do not see any brackets around the HDD comparable to the 8HD. Perhaps it is fixed by screws directly from the underside of the main chassis? Or perhaps even with glue or sticky pads only??

Parametric, Thanks, In that pdf it says: remove 4 screws and cables to remove the hard disc....I wonder if it is referring to taking out the power supply screws and power supply....? I just can't make out what 4 screws are being referred to.

Well to me it seems from the PDF that the screws are in the bottom of the chassis like I guessed before. A bit more difficult to remove than in the 8HD, as you have to either turn the chassis around and then hold the HDD somehow as you unscrew, or arrange so that you can unscrew from below, like in a car maintenance pit . Sorry I cannot confirm this as I have the 8HD. Just trying to help from what I see in the pictures.

Pev, Thanks for your input. I called Alesis but I caught them at their "we're closed for today but will call you tomorrow" moment. I will let you all know what they say.

I just can't make out what 4 screws are being referred to. I think you are on the right track, I have a lot of hard drives lying around and they do have four threaded mounting holes in the bottom - WD, IBM, Maxtor, all the same 1 3/4 inch cc long and 3 3/4 inch cc across How about a picture of the bottom of the 6HDAttachments:

Oh, it didn't occur to me that maybe everyone doesn't know that HDDs have screw points also in the bottom, sorry!

It appears that the 6HD does not have the second raised bed in the bottom half of the housing like the Fusion does, so the Hard Drive is probably attached to the bottom of the case by four screws Attachments:

The Harddrive in the 6HD is attached to the bottom of the synth with 4 screws from the outside-in. I always wondered why they put the drive in cramped like that. I think there is enough place for it on the left side of the motherboard. (see picture) Maybe, when my new SSD arrives, i put it over there. I have to lengthen the IDE cable and the power wires, hope that is not too difficult. I think the old drive place is a nice place to put an big vent in.

That should work, you might want to go with a round or braided IDE/PATA cable like this linklink
