The Harddrive in the 6HD is attached to the bottom of the synth with 4 screws from the outside-in. I always wondered why they put the drive in cramped like that. I think there is enough place for it on the left side of the motherboard. (see picture) Maybe, when my new SSD arrives, i put it over there. I have to lengthen the IDE cable and the power wires, hope that is not too difficult. I think the old drive place is a nice place to put an big vent in.
I was reticent to go that far with my 8HD - and in fact didn't need to, as there is more "room" inside generally . . . .
It would be incredibly interesting to know IF the Fusion could deal with a MASTER and SLAVE on that controller - but only if you HAVE two devices handy just to try?
But DON'T let it interfere with your main aim - to get the SSD inside and working . . . .
Further to ventillation, the Fusion seems NOT to have any VENTS to the exterior, DESPITE having a fan (albeit, small) inside.
I guess it was thought that as the case was METAL, it was, in fact a damn great heatsink in itself.
So as keeping cool is important, it has to be considered in the light of not wanting to materially increase the ingress of airborn DUST - NOT good where there are key contacts around.
You might look at using old CPU heatsinks? I strip old computer Mobos of heatsinks, fans and coincell holders for instance.
I used some recently to help my stack of networking "boxes" that were running very hot - AND on top of each other . . . .
Doing THIS has helped a lot: My Router is bottom, Gigabit Switch in the middle and Cable Modem on top. My ftp Server to the right
