I am new to this forum, needing help with an 8HD. The compact flash card socket has been damaged on this one, and it will not read or even format my CF cards. So updating the O.S. (currently version 1.01), with the big 64MB image file is impossible. I can use the smaller OS update file and update from the hard drive, but Benjamin Caccia from Alesis says the smaller file is not available. So I am trying to locate an 8HD OS update file, preferably 1.23 or 1.24, but anything newer than 1.01 would be appreciated.

I used this one myself (also still available on the Alesis web site IIRC) on my 8HD but standard disclaimer - this at your own risk. James

Hi Jim, you may have a bent pin or two on the card reader (hopefully not broken pins) so maybe you can straighten out an y bent pins if that is the case.
Also you can purchase the card reader part, but I think you would have to unsolder the old part and solder in the new part.
Hope you get the OS 1.24 installed ok
take Care ... Jesse

Thanks, guys, for your responses. However, I cannot use the large zipped image file with "hard drive" updating. The Fusion system doesn't recognize that as a valid OS update file. Jesse, there are no bent pins on the CF socket, the transceiver/buffer(s) may be bad since no CF card is recognized at the port. I have seen references to the "smaller" OS update files. Those do work with hard drive updating. I load the file via USB to the root of the 8HD hard drive. I will take whatever OS update file I can find, even an older one since there were so many bug fixes since my current 1.01.

You know you need to unzip the file to get the OS bin file, have you tried copying the Bin file to Fusion's hard drive by USB connection with your computer? What size CF card are you using, maximum size is 4 GB Never mind I tried copying the Bin file to Fusion's hard drive and it did not work.
