This is repost from Fusionzone at Jesse's suggestion (Thanks!):
First, thanks to everyone active on the forum. I got a fusion a few weeks ago and you've all provided immeasurable help. I've still got a one problem that I can't seem to solve:
Switching modes generates a ton of control change data, and its really screwing me up since I'm using the fusion in a multitimbral setup.
With local control turned on on the fusion I monitored midi output with Midi-OX and switching from mix mode (with default mix A1 - cold fusion selected) to program mode (with default holy grail selected) generates the following messages:
TIMESTAMP IN PORT STATUS DATA1 DATA2 CHAN NOTE EVENT
746547 1 -- 176 84 0 1 --- CC: Portamento Ctrl
746547 1 -- 176 85 0 1 --- Control Change
746548 1 -- 176 86 0 1 --- Control Change
746549 1 -- 176 80 0 1 --- Control Change
746550 1 -- 176 81 0 1 --- Control Change
746551 1 -- 176 82 0 1 --- Control Change
746552 1 -- 176 83 0 1 --- Control Change
746553 1 -- 176 1 0 1 --- CC: Modulation
746554 1 -- 176 12 0 1 --- Control Change
746555 1 -- 176 13 0 1 --- Control Change
746556 1 -- 176 91 0 1 --- CC: Reverb Depth
746557 1 -- 176 93 0 1 --- CC: Chorus Depth
Switching back to mix mode gives me this:
TIMESTAMP IN PORT STATUS DATA1 DATA2 CHAN NOTE EVENT
784552 1 -- 185 86 0 10 --- Control Change
784553 1 -- 177 86 0 2 --- Control Change
784554 1 -- 178 86 0 3 --- Control Change
784555 1 -- 176 86 0 1 --- Control Change
784555 1 -- 185 80 0 10 --- Control Change
784556 1 -- 185 81 0 10 --- Control Change
784557 1 -- 185 82 0 10 --- Control Change
784558 1 -- 185 83 0 10 --- Control Change
784559 1 -- 176 1 0 1 --- CC: Modulation
784560 1 -- 185 12 0 10 --- Control Change
784561 1 -- 185 13 0 10 --- Control Change
784562 1 -- 185 91 0 10 --- CC: Reverb Depth
784563 1 -- 185 93 0 10 --- CC: Chorus Depth
Since the cold fusion mix has drums on channel 10, I'm assuming that certain settings of the mix/program currently loaded (including mixer settings) are being transmitted when switching modes.
Now, here's the rub: With local control turned off, all of the info transmitted when switching to mix mode is transmitted on the same channel. So if I turn local mode off and switch from program mode (holy grail) to mix mode (cold fusion), I get this:
TIMESTAMP IN PORT STATUS DATA1 DATA2 CHAN NOTE EVENT
999058 1 -- 176 84 0 1 --- CC: Portamento Ctrl
999059 1 -- 176 85 0 1 --- Control Change
999059 1 -- 176 64 0 1 --- CC: Pedal (Sustain)
999061 1 -- 176 86 0 1 --- Control Change
999061 1 -- 176 80 0 1 --- Control Change
999062 1 -- 176 81 0 1 --- Control Change
999063 1 -- 176 82 0 1 --- Control Change
999064 1 -- 176 83 0 1 --- Control Change
999065 1 -- 176 1 0 1 --- CC: Modulation
999066 1 -- 176 12 0 1 --- Control Change
999067 1 -- 176 13 0 1 --- Control Change
999068 1 -- 176 91 0 1 --- CC: Reverb Depth
999069 1 -- 176 93 0 1 --- CC: Chorus Depth
All of the same values are sent as when local mode was on, but they're all being transmitted on channel 1, instead of being sent through channel 1,2,3 and 10.
So my question is, how to I stop this data from being transmitted when entering mix mode? Because as it stands now I can't switch between modes when using a multitimbral setup (with my RS7000 sequencer) without all of multichannel mix settings getting all screwed up. That is to say that everytime i go back to mix mode with local control of the fusion off, all of this control change data is sent to whatever part is assigned to the midi channel that I happen to be routing data to at the time. It's kind of maddening...
Any thoughts? Any ideas why this data is transmitted in the first place (I mean it's already saved with the mix...)
FWIW, I'm aware that I can setup a filter on the sequencer so that it doesn't transmit CC data. However, that severely limits my ability to record performance data. (Also, my midi filter doesn't seem to be working at all.... another problem for another forum)
