Hi Indium . . . .
Intermittent faults are the worst kind . . . . Your Fusion is NEARLY working. Makes me think there is a "tenuous" connection somewhere which is easily "disturbed".
The only thing I can suggest to try BEFORE thinking about faulty pcbs is this:
If you look at SOME of the ribbon cables inside the Fusion, SOME have identical Plugs on each end (i.e. same SEX). Usually Female "socket" on both ends - i.e. HOLES.
These fit the PINS that are usually on the pcbs.
These can usefully be reversed (swapped, end-to end IYSWIM)
If there is an intermittent connection there, the act of giving the socket a DIFFERENT plug CAN make a connection GOOD.
Perhaps this makes a difference?

hi , nothing connection seem bad , I test , looking all element with a magnifying glass... so I writte to Alesis UK and perhaps they can Help me ( they said : With regards to your previous message, I believe that the preset's on your unit are failing to be read correctly ) a problem with access Rom sounds? in the worst case a problem with PCB ( I hope not ) I m waiting... But when it boot normaly it working perfectly For the moment I just replace the PSU with a mini ATX (35€) working GREAT

A few further thoughts, indium . . . .
Alesis said: If you are using ATX PSU, maybe 12v is not enough to work "properly"? i.e, it really "needs" 16v?
Another thing to try perhaps is to reload the OS1.24 with CF Card. The download from the Alesis site ALSO contains the final ROM content (perhaps yours has become corrupted?)
In an earlier post you said: Do you have the E3 expansion RAM installed? If you do, maybe try re-seating them? (do this to BOTH chips - even SWAP them round! - perhaps the error code moves from engine 1 to engine 2. If so, then perhaps one RAM chip is bad?)
(If your Fusion is unexpanded - then obviously, this step doesn't apply . . . . )
If you get the Fusion working correctly with the ATX PSU, it would be great if you could give some wiring details and pictures if possible - as this may be a way to proceed when no more Akai PSUs are available . . . .
All the Best

I reload OS 1.24 I don't have expansion memory ... The problem is the same ...but many Time it working good and sometimes the same message ??!??!??! Only Alesis can Help me At the diagnostic mode all pcb haven't failures Fx haven't problem ,but sometime for the engine 2 a problem to read memory I think later ( if I have a good solution) buy à alesis fusion 6 to repair my alesis fusion 8 For the PSU two other people ( in France ) use a PSU from PC The only thing they made (with the original LCD ) is to take OFF ,behind the screen,R22(use to transform -16 Volt to -12 Volt ) For the new LCD nothing to change See my previous post (original note to alesis) I use FSP FLEX-ATX 180W| Format Flex-ATX not a mini ATX I ´ve decided to keep off the pcb for SATA, and to take OFF the Fan(there are one on new PSU) I just cut the support for the HD See the pictures ( it's not a final working)

I send all photos to diagnostic mode at Uk Alesis .. Their response :" With regards to your previous message, given the results of your diagnostic, it does look like there could be a potential problem with the memory for the unit. I can therefore only recommend contacting your local Alesis repair centre for an out of warranty inspection to see if they can determine the exact cause of the issue and complete a repair on your behalf"
Nothing i can do... The fusion working (sometime to power on 2 times for that ) I'm waiting to buy (not expensive ) a Alesis Fusion 6 in order to take" Main pcb" it's the only solution

That is very frustrating, but as the memory is resident, it would be a pcb repair - which I would guess is do-able with the right equipment and a skilled user.
However that has to be balanced out against their probable (IMO) recommendation of a replacement pcb - which, IIRC is expensive . . . .
Is there somewhere you could arrange to take it, for an opinion?
Otherwise, a transplant from another Fusion is always an option . . .

I spoke with an electronic technician and he think this defect is due to improper welding it must be true ,because the fusion boot ok after it ´s staying power on (with the default message) during ~10 minutes in all cases the second boot is ok !

From the symptoms you are seeing, I would agree. If the memory chips can be identified, then a technician with suitable equipment could "refresh" the soldering - and that should be the end of the problem. The intermittent nature SUGGESTS that there is a dry-soldered joint somewhere, associated with that second RAM chip? I can't remember if the Fusion's chips are "regular" or surface-mounted. Either type CAN be re-soldered with the right equipment. If your technician would be prepared to do this, then money could be saved by taking only the pcb to him for re-soldering - then you are NOT paying him for the disassembly I would guess it should take less than 1hour . . . Let us know how it goes parametric
