et voilĂ !
My 6HD is upgraded. It took about 45 minutes, with much care. I didn't encounter many difficulties, just to disassemble the case. I helped with the document that describes how to do with a 8HD, but I didn't remove as many connectors as shown in it. Only two had to be unplugged.
It's not very difficult for anyone who knows how to use an electric screw-driver !

Hi all glad to find this site. Love the fusion. I did the E3 upgrade. Didn't see a difference. Did I do something wrong?

Hi all glad to find this site. Love the fusion. I did the E3 upgrade. Didn't see a difference. Did I do something wrong? The fusion should now show 192 MB per voice engine. The difference is not increased speed on the initial loading of sounds into memory, but the ability to load more sounds or data into memory, once your sounds are in memory you can quickly change from one sound to another.

Bad news, sounds like the MPC 5000 is on it's way out link link link
If you want a spare Fusion PSU and/or the E3 expansion memory you better get it while you can

Akai already has 7 new models out to replace the old MPC Series linkThe MPC 5000 is now listed as a Legacy product linkThe Fusion uses memory banks of 64 MB, the base memory is 64 MB and the expansion modules each have two 64 MB banks for 128 MB per module

I installed the E3 upgrade, and don't see any improvements. I thought I did it right. Any idea where I screwed up?

I installed the E3 upgrade, and don't see any improvements. I thought I did it right. Any idea where I screwed up? After install did you check the Fusion's memory? Should be 192Mb per voice engine. What improvements were you expecting? The gain you get 1. Is not in speed of the initial loading of programs, but the ability to load more programs into memory and once loaded quickly move from one program to another 2. More memory for creating your own songs.

I was expecting the memory would hold say, the piano and organ both in memory so that between songs there'd be no lag time. This seems not to be the case. I guess the 'more memory creating more songs' is a good thing, though I'm not sure what that means.

Correction. I does load more programs for faster access. Not sure what I expected, but it does load big programs and keep them handy without having to be reloaded all the time.

Should I take it (by this thread) that AKAI MPC 5000 memory upgrades can be installed/used on a Fusion without any issues? There still seem to be a number of them available on ebay.
