I've heard menga's "Dirty" demo, with its Kevin Moore-ish sound (amazingly a stock preset), and I love that sound. How about the old, fat Mark Kelley-ish Minimoog lead sound, a la "Incommunicado?" Not that his lead sound was all that unique, that's just the example that comes springing to mind. Seems like with three oscillators and all those filters it sound be possible, but I thought the same thing with my Supernova and it just can't do that sound at all.
Anyone got any demos of that sound? I would love to hear them.

So, ummm, is the lack of replies indicative of the Fusion not being able to do this sound? Or has no one ever done any demos with it? Just curious...

I don't know the sound you are referring to so can't comment. I do find it improbable that Fusion cannot create the sound (or something close). Put up an MP3 example of 'Incommunicado" and if (IF) I get a moment, I might have a bash at it. Steve

OK then: Quick clip of "Incommunicado"It's got the main melody of the song and the solo, both played on the Minimoog. It's really nothing unique, just what I would consider the standard Minimoog lead, I'd maybe even like mine with a bit more "buzz" in it. Also, if you listen in the background you can hear that fabulous, gritty organ sound I asked about in another thread. Mark Kelley used a Korg CX3. The Fusion can do that too? Thanks everyone.

I think you can have these sounds on the Fusion with the VA engine.

Try this for a starting point - from a new analogue program, switch on Osc 2, set them both to a saw/tri wave with shape at about +70% (maybe set Osc 2 a few % lower), then add a few % of random tuning to Osc 2. Then switch to the RP filter and pop resonance up to about a third. Switch the voice to "monophonic", and set the portamento time to about 25ms (ie. audible but only just). I think that gets you most of the way there - after that it's just a matter of trimming and tuning (for a start, you'll want a longer release section); obviously you may completely disagree

Try THISSounds pretty close to me. - Knob 1 adjusts attack
- Knob 2 increases detune for a 'fatter' sound
- Knob 3 sets reverb level
- Knob 4 sets delay level
- S1 adds sub-oscillator
- S2 disables portamento/glide
I hope it's close. Adjust to taste. Steve

Well Steve, once again I have to thank you. Not only did you help out you actually MADE ME A PATCH! Damn, that's service! Gotta thank Gwen too for the suggestions. I can't imagine another product that would give this level of user support. Unfortunately, I don't yet own a Fusion so I can't try the patch. I bought a Supernova to replace my Nord Lead and was very disappointed. It's got everything I always wished the Nord had, but the sound just ain't there. No fizz or buzz or whatever you want to call it. Everything has a smooth, "string-like" quality to it. It drives me nuts. Anyway, it seems from the replies here that the Fusion CAN do that good, buzzy Moog sound (I got the same sound on my Nord and before that my Pro One). Thanks for the replies, and again, if anyone has any MP3 demos I'd be thrilled to hear them.

Hi Danimal I've done a little demo with Steve's "Kelly Lead" in a Marillion style :-) but not well played, I admit ! I trimmed the Osc1 frequency then switched the octave osc on in the first few measures. Portamento is always on. deweak.free.fr/fusion_kelly_lead.mp3

Indeed - you played that riff a hell of a lot better than I could have done

We aim to please Anyway, it seems from the replies here that the Fusion CAN do that good, buzzy Moog sound Fusion can turn it's hand to pretty much anything you ask of it which is why it never ceases to delight (and often amaze) me. This patch took a few minutes to make, a few more to refine. Steve
