Greetings to all! As they say on the radio, “long time listener, first time caller”. I’ve been reading through the forums to help make my synth/workstation purchase decision for a few weeks now, and you all have been very helpful (without even knowing it). I want to thank the administrators and participants.
Just received my 6HD last night and had a good running start at it, especially for a casual keyboardist and first-time workstation user. Mainly I’m a guitarist, but I have allot of stuff going through my head that needed capturing and refining; thus the Fusion. Also, I play in a 60s British Invasion Plus (meaning other like bands of the era from this side of the pond as well) band. Seeing as we have no real keyboard player (and frankly, for much of the material a hack keyboardist such as me suffices), I cover the position. I’m hoping to gig with the 6HD as well as soon as I’m comfortable with the “authentic” (we’re big on that) representations of the instruments. Already there with many of them after last night’s session, still getting comfortable with others.
Interestingly enough, the more complex ones like pianos and stop organs are right there, though I, as I’m sure everybody, will keep searching for that perfect Hammond B3/Leslie sound (ala Rascals, Traffic, Procol Harum). I’m looking for suggestions for some of the other keyboard sounds of that era, such as that on Red Rubber Ball (Cyrcle) and I’m a Believer (Monkees). Both these I’ve started with Recorder Solo (from the factory), and tweaked a little. The Continental Organ Program gets me close to Paul Revere and the Raiders and Dave Clark Five, but always looking for suggestions. Donovan’s Sunshine Superman is another one I’d like to nail. You get the idea. I plan to look forward with this machine in creating my own music, and backwards in contributing to this little “stuck in the 60s band of mine.
By the way, the band’s story is quite interesting. We’re all best friends from high school where, as soon as we knew three chords on the guitar, we formed a band. That was 1967. We played together through high school and some of us into college. 28 years later, we reformed. Check it out:
