Hi all, I have a question for you. I created a bank called MY BANK 1 and rearranged the bank to sit under the ROM banks. It worked. Later I created another bank call My Bank 2 and rearranged it to sit just under MY BANK 1. It looked like it worked but after I reboot the FUSION it resets itself to the bottom of the list. Anybody else exiperiencing this or is it just me?
thanks!

This has to do with the bank.txt file. The order of the banks is determined by the order of the banknames in the bank.txt file.
So if you change the bank.txt file, then the order will be the way you like it.
I have numbered my banks the avoid messing up the order and to avoid breaking references to songs or mixes.

It would appear that the re-arranged bank order is held locally in RAM but is not stored to disk for some reason. When you reboot, the original order is shown. You can 'hand-code' your bank order by editing the BANK.TXT file on your PC however. Steve

In which directory(s) are you referring to? Off the top of my head, I think it would be the main PROGRAMS directory's BANK.TXT file. You should see it when you open it up anyway - it should show the bank names listed. With a simple cut and paste job, you should be able to re-order it as you want. NOTE: Be cautious - this is like screwing with your PC's BIOS! It's a good idea to keep a little back up of the original BANK.TXT file in case your edits go squiffy - you can always revert back to that even if the order is wrong for you. Steve

It's a good idea to keep a little back up of the original BANK.TXT file in case your edits go squiffy - you can always revert back to that even if the order is wrong for you. Steve That's why i number my banks, for example: 20 Hollow Sun 5, 21 Hollow Sun 6, etc. In the bank.txt file you then have: 20 Hollow Sun 5, the next line is: 21 Hollow Sun 6 etc. You always know what the order is. Be cautious when moving banks around, because the Fusion does not look at bank names but at bank numbers. The second line in the bank.txt file is bank1, the third is bank2 and so on. If you delete or move a bank, the sequencer will use the wrong programs in your songs, screwing it all up. I think this is because in the MIDI protocol you only have banknumbers and not names. When you put a programchange message in your sequence, it is always with banknumbers and programnumbers, not names. If i delete a programbank, i always put an empty bank in it's place and use this bank for new sounds. So far this has worked fine for me. No more wrong sounds in songs or mixes. A bankname can have the maximum of 16 letters. Otherwise the Fusion will not recognize the bank.

Arrange a bank in the order you want it and then change its name by adding a "-" or whatever. This will set the bank position. If you wish, you can rename the bank back to what it was. It will stay after rebooting.

Also, the order seems to be persistent if you verify the bankset (i.e. Programs) after arranging.

I downloaded the FUSIONSORT program and that did the trick. I moved the MY BANKS 2 and MY BANKS 3 banks to the top of the list and they are still there after I reboot.
So now I am wondering if moving "my banks" to the top of the list is a good idea based on the comments above concerning screwing up the original order of the bank number. I have not noticed any problems yet at least.
Is the purpose for putting the number in front of all bank names just to remember the original location?
Thanks!

The order of (program-) banks is only relevant if you use midi program changes. Either from the internal or an external sequencer. Otherwise you can safely rearrange the order of banks and items. But not rename them, as the name is used to identify an object. The scenario that I (plan to) use for pgm changes is as follows: keep a couple of (imaginary) empty banks on top of the list and leave them there for the rest of your life. This is where the midi selectable programs will be stored. After that come the banks with free-form order that can be arranged in any liking. I say "plan to" and "will be" because I haven't used any midi program changes yet .
