Hi everyone, I wonder if any of you can lend a hand in solving the problem I'm having. Here goes. I am using a drum machine to program my drums step sequencer-style. I would like to record my beats into the fusion sequencer in midi so I can then use the fusion internal drum sounds(better than my drum machine's). Unfortunately I don't seem to be able to do that! Here's what I've done so far:
1. midi out of drum machine into midi in of fusion 2. Global>midi>general midi on and receive midi clock on 3. song>edit>track>record arm on and midi channel set to 10, same as in drum machine. 4. press record on the fusion, press play on drum machine. At this point fusion starts recording and playing back what i programed on drum machine, in perfect sync. when I stop recording and try to listen back, nothing has been recorded (I even checked editor>track event and track view).
As far as I know this should be possible but I just don't know what I'm doing wrong. Can any of you guys please help?
thanks

I presume that you can actualy hear the sounds being triggered correctly on the fusion?
if you can then could it be something simple like the record mode set to spot erase instead of overdub or replace?
cheers

Here's what I've done so far: * What drum machine? * Is QUANTIZE enabled on Fusion? * I am wondering that *maybe* Fusion's QUANTIZE is truncating the triggers to 000.000. * Try recording without Fusion quantize enabled.... * Have a look at the TRACK EVENT editor and check note lengths Otherwise, I dunno! If Fusion plays the events properly, it should be able to record them. If it can't record them, I suspect some record option is incorrectly selected. But I can't be sure. Steve

I'd like to thank ajmuso and steve for their helpful replies. I hope this sheds some more light on my problem.
I'm using a Boss BR-1180cd, which I have set up to control an external device according to its instruction manual.
QUANTIZE is set to off. All record options are set to record any type of midi event.
This is what has me head-scratching! after recording has stopped, the track event editor shows NO note event! like the recording didn't happen even though the fusion was playing back in sync with drum machine!
Also, after reading Steve's reply I tried ENABLING quantize just to see what would happen. As a result of that, my beats didn't play back correctly (probably to be expected), BUT the sequencer did record a few random notes (as opposed to nothing at all with quantize disabled)! This confused me even more. I honestly have no idea what could be wrong.
Thank you for your time.

Is there any chance that you could record the midi data from your drum m/c into a computer sequencer?
You could then examine the data. I find that my SR-16 puts out note lengths of zero, which the Fusion doesn't like.
I wondered if this could be your problem also.

Unfortunately, at present I have no way of hooking up my drum machine (or fusion) via midi to a computer. I agree that would probably give some insight into why the fusion is not recordiing midi data.

Would it be possible to try recording midi data from another synth, rather than the drum m/c.
