Hi to everyone, I have joined this forum in the hope that I can get some answers to a few questions I have regarding the Fusion before I purchase one.
I am used to pattern based sequencing, I know the Fusion is only linear based but I wondered if there is a work around?
Is the VA engine as good as the micron?
IS there still a time delay when changing patches?
Can you record external synths etc using the internal effects, filters etc?
Do all new Fusions come with a 80G HD?
Whats the support like for this workstation in England?
Thanks in advance, SS

Hi :-)
Linear/Pattern/workaround: It is linear, but you have some editing functionality (including region copy-paste). In my opinion, the sequencer is great for not losing your ideas, but for a complete song I would fire up Reaper (awesome PC Software).
VA: Don't have a micron, but it is extremely versatile and sounds awesome to me.
delay on preset change: When you dial in a 20MB sized preset, you will definitely have some delay - as you would on every other sampler that uses a harddisk.
Effects externally: You can use external input as a VA-Source. From this point on, you're free to enrich it with effects.
80GB: As far as I know, only the earliest models had a 40GB HD built in.
Support: I neither live in England nor had to contact support, yet.
Cheers

Hi to everyone, I have joined this forum in the hope that I can get some answers to a few questions I have regarding the Fusion before I purchase one. Welcome! I am used to pattern based sequencing, I know the Fusion is only linear based but I wondered if there is a work around? I am used to pattern sequencing as well but Fusion's sequencer isn't insurmountable. Workarounds? Copy and paste! Create 8 bar 'verse', mark start and end, copy, paste XX times. Add 8 bar 'chorus, mark start and end, copy, paste. Rewind to verse, mark start and end, copy after chorus, and so on. Or buy an MPC Is the VA engine as good as the micron? Yes and no. More powerful... far more powerful. But arguably not as 'squidgy' as Micron. Still damned pokey though. IS there still a time delay when changing patches? Yes and no. No delay between VA, FM and PM patches and often no delay between ROMpler/sample-based sounds. There can be a delay of a few seconds when you first load up a large sample-based sound but once loaded, switching between it and other programs is instant. Can you record external synths etc using the internal effects, filters etc? Not really Do all new Fusions come with a 80G HD? Yes. But 40GB is sufficient if you can only lay your hands on an older unit. Whats the support like for this workstation in England? I've not had much call to use it but when I have, it's been fine. Like most tech support, they can answer some things but not all things and sometimes, if they can't help, it's because the problem has not been explained to them properly (having worked in tech support years ago, I can relate to that). Hey thanks for the info as well Steve it really is appreciated. I did try out a Fusion 18 months ago before I got my Fantom X. I was impressed with the sounds, very nice indeed. It was the lack of patern sequencing for example drum and bassline sequencing that wasn't on the Fusion which finally put me off buying it. At the time I think they were still selling for £700. Which in retrospect is a good price, I just didn't see it that way at that time. You have put me in a good postion now as I can see how you can get round the pattern problem.
As I have said I think it is a fantastic synth, the sound set exceeds that of my Fantom X which I still love but I'm now bored with it's soundset. I think the Fusion will complement the FX no end.
I hope I haven't left it too late to buy one new as they are getting quite rare in the shops now. Thanks again fellas your replys have helped alot.

Well, Turnkey are knocking them out for £550 a throw at the moment (and that's the Fusion 8HD - there are 88-key controller keyboards around for more than that!) - I was hoping to secure one myself at that price, but any free money I might have had has been absorbed by moving house, so... ah well.

Well, Turnkey are knocking them out for £550 a throw at the moment Trouble is (as I understand it) they are all paid for back orders that will fly out as soon as they arrive (don't always trust Turdkey's advertising!!! ). I'd give Andertons a call. In fact, I did - last time I heard, in stock and they can be a little flexible on price. Shame you can't stump for an 8HD, Gwen. Steve
