I've read that, among other things, Sweetwater is offering up some sweet sounds of their own when you purchase a Fusion from them.
One of these is a re-worked Holy Grail Piano.
Has anyone heard this patch?

I've got 'em... I'm not sure exactly what the tweak is, -maybe velocity? Email Dan Fisher @ Sweetwater & ask, he'll probably get back to you. If not, call Sweetwater & talk w/ a salesman, - the should know. For some reason, the standard HG Piano works better for my style of playing. The rest of the sounds aren't too bad. I had really hoped for even more sounds though (I guess I'm greedy!)... Dan Fisher has done some amazing samples/sounds for the Kurzweil! The Fusion has a lot of power to exploit! Dana

Has anyone heard this patch? I have the Sweetwater 2007 spring catalogue & it has a url link on page 99 that is supposed to take you to audio samples of the Sweetwater edition sounds. It was not there, but I did mention it to Yuval Fuchs(sales engineer) & he is looking into it.

Yes, I have the Sweetwater Edition 6hd. The Holy Grail Piano appears to me as a very natural, sweet, and highly realistic power-grand. I agree with Dana that the velocity could be improved in editing. Since I am only 3 weeks old in Fusion-life, I am still trying to determine where exactly all the sounds Sweetwater advertised are stored. Their site says special Kurzweil, Oberheim, Mellotron, etc. sounds have been added, but they don't have those names on board. Any ideas, friends?
Much appreciation, Mark

Where may I obtain this 'Sweetwater' edition 'Holy Grail' piano on-line? I really don't like the original much as it is a 'hollow corpus'. I have to jump on my Kurzweil M12 when I want to play a 'living' piano (which sometimes has a mind of it's own in a 'bewitched' manner). Where is the "Sweetwater" Edition On-Line? I want to hear these patches.

JP,
I would love to send you the HG Piano file from my Fusion, but I don't know how to load it on my computer, and my flash card reader is not recognized by my computer. Can I upload it via USB?
Thanks, Mark

What they have done is bundle Fusion with everything that's been released (i.e. all the Hollow Sun stuff) plus their own bank(s) of Kurzweil derived sounds. The Mellotron and Oberheim stuff is all on there but to avoid any possible trademark violation, they are euphestically named ("Tape XYZ" in the case of Tron sounds). You can find out what's what with regard to the Hollow Sun stuff in this comprehensive listing: www.alesis.com/index.php?id=21,80,0,0,1,0 Steve

Steve Well then that will never happen as "Sweetwater' is the most $OVERPRICED$ musical supply company in the world. They wanted $10,000 for my Kurzweil which I bought for $2500.00 USD. They probably 'tweeked' the Fusion patches in the warehouse on Sunday afternoon to 'grease' the BOSS for a raise. 'MONSTER' cables anyone?

They probably 'tweeked' the Fusion patches in the warehouse on Sunday afternoon to 'grease' the BOSS for a raise. That's not true and a little unfair. Dan Fisher did Sweetwater's banks which includes many new samples and programs as well as some tweaks to existing ROM sounds. Dan's no slouch when it comes to programming and was (is) something of a Kurzweil guru doing much to establish Kurzweil in the US as I understand it. He is equally taken by Fusion's capabilities. It took me a while to realise that when my XL7 mentioned Tron Strings, they weren't talking about anything to do with the Disney film... * sigh*

Please excuse my lack of knowledge and or of the "messing-up" of one's plummage on this matter. But, I still can't understand WHY? 'Sweetwater' (a musical supply company) would care to modify, re-synthesize or 'tamper' with the factory presets of a product that they were merely distributing/moving. I'm sure they didn't bother to create NEW 'wave tables' for the machine. I smell a 'Marketing Gimic'.

I'm sure they didn't bother to create NEW 'wave tables' for the machine. According to those people who have received the Sweetwater sounds (not me - wrong pondianism), that seems to be what they did - load their own sample library onto the Fusion, and create patches to utilise it. That can probably be explained by the fact that Daniel Fisher, the guy who wrote Keyboard's recent "10 Fusion Tips" article and apparently an enthusiast for the Fusion, works with Sweetwater and created the patches. As to why, the answer is so obvious as to be uninteresting - it sells stock. The much more interesting question is why Sweetwater seem to be so determined to sell an instrument that everyone else seems to have given up on a long time ago - frankly, if they were just boxshifters, they'd be flogging the latest MotrintoM3 and have remaindered it off a year ago... just as certain other chains did...

As to why, the answer is so obvious as to be uninteresting - it sells stock. Yep! Because Dan Fisher thinks Fusion is one of the most exciting products for a long time (since the Kurzweil perhaps). I believe he is particularly enamoured of the mod matrix and the vast (no pun intended Kurzweil owners!) possiibilities it offers in the various synth engines. Dan was one of the few who 'got' the Kurzweil and pretty much helped to establish it (in the US at least) when others were just looking at 'the big three' and the bottom line. I don't know Sweetwater from Adam (although I've spoken to Dan on a few occasions) and certainly don't want this to be seen as an endorsement or advert for them but it is refreshing to see someone get behind a product that's maybe a bit tricky to shift in today's market climate. And just to balance this out, Thoman in Europe also ship their Fusions with a custom soundset created by synthmeister Klaus Schultze. Steve
