Thanks, Jesse, I'm slightly tempted to ask Alesis, but I think it is likely they cannot answer this offhand and since Fusion is no longer in development (or even manufactured) they would/could not bother to research the subject.

Congrats, parametric! I still wish very much that someone would come forward and explain what the f*** it is that prevents a SATA SSD + IDE adapter combo from working in Fusion! I hate it when these kinds of things are left unexplained. Thanks for that pev69! There is much truth in what Jesse says - go straight to the horse's mouth, but my feeling also is that they won't be bothered . . . On another level "The squeaky wheel get the oil" - which might also be true in the case of ChickenSystems and Fusion Converter/Creator. For what it's worth, I imagine the majority of the team that devised the Fusion have probably moved on elsewhere or are involved in other projects. I would speculate that at the time the Fusion was being manufactured, SATA-1 was "happening" in the wider PC world but was still rather new (and therefore expensive), so Alesis decided to go with tried and tested IDE, with both chips and Drives being cheap and commonplace. I was NOT satisfied with my own attempts to make SATA work, as I did not go right back to the IDE connector mounted on the mobo*, and I could have made mistakes with my connections from the drive-end of the ribbon cable. * I was uncomfortable with removing the digital expansion pcb? to get to the controller connector . . . . The basic command set of IDE remains inside SATA-1 to maintain backward compatibility so it seems logical that it should work. Perhaps the choice of drive AND converter is more particular that we know? Also worth remembering that we're at SATA-3 now, which can only complicate things further? I would certainly welcome an informed view of my theories from anyone more familiar with these "inner workings" of IDE/SATA, than me. The IDE SSD is not too bad an upgrade though . . . . I forgot to mention that, in addition to cooler running, quieter running and much less power consumption (less stress on the PSU), you also get a 40 Gb increase in storage . . . . So what with all the HS stuff (free and bought), quite a few from Klaus, plus the two Vstreams and MovinPro from Joeri, I still have over 100Gb free for masses of audio - or whatever . . . . Not a bad hike from the original 40Gb . . . . . Best Regards parametric

Another old saying - Better to try and fail than to never try at all! So far we Fusion owners have made very good progress maintaining and improving our Fusions without any help from Alesis, but help from Alesis would be greatly appreciated by all

Another old saying - Better to try and fail than to never try at all! Yes, I agree with that saying, but my serious flaw in this is that I haven't much lived according to it, I quess it is some sort of basic shyness which I hate, sort of. Another flaw that I have is that for some reason using the phone is not very comfortable for me, I'd much rather use email or a forum like this. I mean once I get to phone someone it's okay, but making the call at all is the problem. My third "flaw" right now is that I use Fusion (or any other instrument) very infrequently these days, it may take weeks or even months sometimes between sessions.

By the way pev69 the flowchart you made of the Fusion's main functional parts is very nice, I printed it out on 11x17 paper and placed it on the wall in my music room

That's nice to hear, and thanks! I can tell you that it did take effort to refine the schematics into this chart, and I was trying to be very thorough in including all the essential modules and connections . I can still provide the original MS Visio 2007 document, or even make a custom resolution picture, if anyone needs it and provided that I notice the request, heh.

64GB Transcend PSD330 2.5-inch IDE Internal SSD Solid State Disk (MLC Flash) $99.01 at Amazon linkBoth the Kingspec and the Transend have a MTBF:1,000,000 Hours, the Kingspec has a 2 year warranty and the Transend has a 3 year warranty, read write times are close to the same so it looks like the Kingspec gives you more bang for the buck

A link to more 2.5" IDE/PATA SSD drives linkThey have both 2.5 & 3.5 inch IDE/PATA drives - They have a 30 day return policy Note the 2.5" drives are true IDE/PATA drives
The 3.5" drives are SATA drives with an IDE/PATA to SATA converter cable, but they have these in SATA II 3GB format, which may be a usable drive in the Fusion if anyone wants to invest some time and money to check them out.
SATA III definitely will not work in the Fusion - I have connected both SATA II & SATA III drives to Fusions eSATA port, neither show up in a normal boot up of the Fusion, but the SATA II drive did show up in the Fusion Diagnostic mode with faster access times than the internal IDE/PATA drive . This data is posted here for future SATA SSD dive tests and discussions link

>> Welcome to the forum pablofcid . . . . .
I really thank your 'welcomed' words, Parametric. It seems that my original reply to your message didn't become posted. I will try now. Appart from the 'thankyou', I wanted to share that I ordered the 64GB version of the SSD. Last friday I finally got it at my postbox, and hope to install it in the coming days and report back.
See you soon
Pablo
PD: mine is a 8HD son to become 8SSD

Good job! And thanks for this new. But why not to try with a 2,5 " IDE HD drive?
